I will share some of my experiences when enrolled in the Sutra Translation program in Dharma Realm Buddhist University (DRBU), and if time allowed, I also would like to share an interesting Chan Story which inspired me a lot. please kindly correct me If I have anything deviant from the correct Buddhadharma.<br><br><strong>\u6211\u7b2c\u4e00\u6b21\uff082015\u5e74\uff09\u4f86\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u505a\u7fa9\u5de5\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u5c31\u611f\u89ba\u81ea\u5df1\u53ef\u4ee5\u505a\u4f5b\u7d93\u7ffb\u8b6f\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u6709\u7684\u6cd5\u53cb\u4e5f\u8aaa\u6211\u5b78\u6b77\u9ad8\u53ef\u4ee5\u505a\u7ffb\u8b6f\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u5b78\u6b77\u9ad8\u4e26\u4e0d\u4ee3\u8868\u80fd\u529b\u597d\uff0c\u6211\u90a3\u6642\u5019\u81ea\u5df1\u82f1\u6587\u9084\u662f\u4e0d\u592a\u597d\uff0c\u6211\u4e26\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u8a72\u600e\u9ebc\u8fa6\u3002\u5f8c\u4f86\u56e0\u70ba\u67d0\u4e9b\u539f\u56e0\uff0c\u4e09\u500b\u6708\u5f8c\uff0c\u525b\u53d7\u5b8c\u4e94\u6212\u5c31\u96e2\u958b\u4e86\uff0c\u90a3\u6642\u5019\u9023\u5eda\u623f\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\u611f\u89ba\u90fd\u6c92\u505a\u5920\u3002\u7121\u8ad6\u6211\u5728\u54ea\u88e1\uff0c\u6211\u4e00\u76f4\u628a\u9019\u88e1\u7576\u6210\u662f\u6211\u7684\u7cbe\u795e\u4e4b\u5bb6\u3002<\/strong><br><br>When I first came (in 2015) to CTTB to volunteer, I felt I might be suitable to do Sutra Translation; a lay person also said I can be a translator as I have high academic qualifications, but I thought a high level of education didn\u2019t represent enough capacities, especially that my English was not proficient enough. After 3 months, although I felt I needed to do more kitchen work, I left right after taking five precepts due to some complex issues, but I kept regarding CTTB as my home of soul no matter wherever I went.<br><br><strong>\u6642\u9694\u591a\u5e74\uff0c\u6211\u7d42\u65bc\u6709\u6a5f\u6703\u518d\u56de\u4f86\u8056\u57ce\uff0c \u90a3\u6642\u5019\u56e0\u70ba\u5728\u5916\u9762\u7d93\u6b77\u4e86\u4e00\u4e9b\u4e8b\u60c5\uff0c\u6211\u5fc3\u5f88\u7d2f\uff0c\u6574\u500b\u4eba\u72c0\u614b\u4e0d\u592a\u597d\uff0c\u672c\u4f86\u6253\u7b97\u597d\u597d\u6536\u6536\u5fc3\u505a\u505a\u7fa9\u5de5\uff0c\u56de\u4f86\u7684\u6642\u5019\u525b\u597d\u8d95\u4e0a\u842c\u4f5b\u5bf6\u61fa\u6094\u6700\u5f8c\u4e00\u5468\uff0c\u7d50\u679c\u6cd5\u6703\u4e00\u7d50\u675f\u99ac\u4e0a\u5c31\u6709\u6cd5\u5927\u7562\u696d\u7684\u540c\u5b78\u4ecb\u7d39\u4e86\u9019\u500b\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u4e26\u62c9\u6211\u9032\u53bb\u4e86\uff0c\u6211\u4e00\u9ede\u6e96\u5099\u4e5f\u6c92\u6709\uff0c\u611f\u89ba\u767c\u751f\u5f97\u5be6\u5728\u592a\u5feb\uff0c\u6211\u9084\u6c92\u600e\u9ebc\u6a23\u5c31\u8981\u99ac\u4e0a\u53bb\u505a\u53e6\u4e00\u4ef6\u4e8b\uff0c\u8981\u4ee5\u6700\u5feb\u7684\u901f\u5ea6\u5beb\u6750\u6599\uff0c\u90a3\u6642\u5019\u6709\u4eba\u5efa\u8b70\u6211\u53ef\u4ee5\u7b2c\u4e8c\u5e74\u518d\u7533\u8acb\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u6211\u4e5f\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u600e\u9ebc\u5730\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u611f\u89ba\u975e\u8981\u99ac\u4e0a\u505a\u4e0d\u53ef\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u6709\u611f\u89ba\u9019\u597d\u50cf\u662f\u89c0\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u63a8\u8457\u6211\u52a0\u5165\u7684\uff0c\u4e0d\u662f\u6211\u81ea\u5df1\u80fd\u6c7a\u5b9a\u7684\u3002<\/strong><br><br>I finally got a chance to go back to CTTB after many years, when I returned, it happened to be the last week of the Ten Thousand Buddhas Repentance. My mind was weary and not in good condition due to some things I went through outside, so initially I wanted to calm down to volunteer here. But an alumna from DRBU pulled me into the Translation Certificate program right after the bowing repentance session finished. I was totally unprepared and felt everything went so quickly. I had to prepare materials at the fastest speed possible. Someone suggested I could do it next year but I didn\u2019t know why but I just felt compelled to do it immediately. I felt it was like Guanshiyin Bodhisattva pushed\u00a0 me to join, not something I could decide on my own.\u00a0<br><br><strong>\u554a\uff01\u89c0\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u771f\u662f\u8fc5\u901f\u554a\uff01\u60f3\u7576\u521d\u6211\u4f86\u8056\u57ce\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u5c31\u611f\u89ba\u771f\u6b63\u7684\u4fee\u884c\u6301\u6212\u61c9\u8a72\u53bb\u7d05\u5875\u4fd7\u4e16\u88e1\u9006\u5883\u4e2d\u78e8\u7149\uff0c\u5728\u9053\u5834\u74b0\u5883\u592a\u597d\u4e86\uff0c\u7d50\u679c\u4e0a\u5348\u525b\u53d7\u5b8c\u4e94\u6212\uff0c\u4e0b\u5348\u6211\u5c31\u5fc5\u9808\u51fa\u53bb\uff0c\u6211\u4e00\u9ede\u6e96\u5099\u4e5f\u6c92\u6709\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ea\u662f\u6211\uff0c\u9023\u77e5\u9053\u6211\u7684\u6cd5\u53cb\u5011\u90fd\u89ba\u5f97\u5f88\u7a81\u7136\u3002\u73fe\u5728\u60f3\u4f86\uff0c\u9019\u8c48\u662f\u6cd5\u5e2b\u7684\u610f\u601d\uff0c\u9019\u6839\u672c\u5c31\u662f\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u7684\u610f\u601d\u554a\uff01\u8b93\u6211\u53bb\u7d05\u5875\u4e2d\u597d\u597d\u78e8\u7149\uff0c\u4fee\u771f\u529f\u592b\u3002\u9019\u6b21\u4e5f\u662f\u4e00\u6a23\u7684\uff0c\u597d\u50cf\u4e00\u5207\u4e5f\u90fd\u5728\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u7684\u5b89\u6392\u4e2d\u3002<\/strong><br><br>Guanyin Bodhisattva is truly swift! When I first came to the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, I felt that true practice and adherence to precepts should be tested in the mundane world amidst adversity, as the environment in the monastery was too comfortable. As a result, right after I received the five precepts in the morning, I had to leave in the afternoon. I was completely unprepared, and it wasn&#8217;t just me\u2014even my Dharma friends found it sudden. Looking back now, it wasn&#8217;t the intention of the Dharma masters at all; it was the will of Guanyin Bodhisattva! She wanted me to undergo rigorous training in the mundane world, to practice true skill. This time it feels the same, as if everything is under the arrangement of Guanyin Bodhisattva.<br><br><strong>\u6240\u4ee5\uff0c\u6211\u53bb\u5e74\u516b\u6708\u7684\u6642\u5019\u52a0\u5165\u4e86\u9019\u500b\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u52a0\u5165\u5f8c\uff0c\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u9019\u500b\u8ab2\u7a0b\u633a\u9069\u5408\u6211\u7684\uff0c\u9996\u5148\u5b83\u662f\u4fee\u884c\u548c\u5b78\u7fd2\u76f8\u8f14\u76f8\u6210\u7684\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u6bcf\u9031\u7684\u81f3\u5c11\u5169\u6b21\u4f5b\u6bbf\u665a\u8ab2\u4e5f\u5217\u5165\u4e86\u5fc5\u4fee\u8ab2\u4e4b\u5167\uff0c\u7576\u7136\u6211\u5929\u5929\u53bb\u3002\u800c\u4e14\u57fa\u672c\u4e0a\u6bcf\u500b\u4e0b\u5348\u7684\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u7121\u8ad6\u4e3b\u8ab2\u7a0b\u662f\u68b5\u6587\u8ab2\uff0c\u7ffb\u8b6f\u7406\u8ad6\u8ab2\u6216\u95b1\u8b80\u8ab2\uff0c\u90fd\u6703\u6709\u4e00\u500b\u534a\u5c0f\u6642\u200b\u200b\u7684\u6253\u5750\u8ab2\uff0c\u6703\u6709\u6cd5\u5e2b\u6559\u6211\u5011\u6253\u5750\u7684\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002\u6211\u73fe\u5728\u89ba\u5f97\u6253\u5750\u597d\u8655\u592a\u591a\u4e86\uff0c\u5c31\u7b97\u6211\u5011\u51e1\u592b\u5fc3\u5ff5\u96dc\u4e82\uff0c\u5984\u60f3\u592a\u591a\uff0c\u5c31\u7b97\u5750\u4e00\u500b\u5c0f\u6642\u5ff5\u5357\u7121\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\uff0c\u518d\u4e0a\u8ab2\u7684\u611f\u89ba\u90fd\u4e0d\u4e00\u6a23\u4e86\u3002\u5176\u6b21\u5b83\u8ab2\u7a0b\u975e\u5e38\u6709\u7528\uff0c\u5c24\u5176\u662f\u6bcf\u9031\u4e00\u5230\u9031\u4e09\u7684\u7ffb\u8b6f\u5de5\u4f5c\u574a\uff0c\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u6211\u5011\u9019\u4e00\u5c46\u7684\u5b78\u751f\u975e\u5e38\u6709\u798f\u5831\u548c\u5584\u6839\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u4e00\u4e0a\u4f86\u7ffb\u8b6f\u7684\u5c31\u662f\u4f5b\u7d93\u7684\u91d1\u8f2a\u738b\u300a\u83ef\u56b4\u7d93\u300b\uff0c\u5e36\u9818\u6211\u5011\u7ffb\u8b6f\u7684\u7d44\u9577\u4f5b\u5b78\u77e5\u8b58\u6df5\u535a\uff0c\u4e0d\u50c5\u512a\u79c0\uff0c\u800c\u4e14\u8b19\u865b\u3002\u6211\u5011\u4e0a\u8ab2\u7684\u6c23\u6c1b\u5f88\u6d3b\u8e8d\uff0c\u5927\u5bb6\u4e5f\u8f15\u9b06\uff0c\u5f8c\u4f86\u6211\u81ea\u767c\u7684\u63d0\u8b70\u8b93\u6211\u5011\u5e7e\u500b\u5b78\u751f\u8f2a\u6d41\u7576\u7d44\u9577\uff0c\u4f86\u8a13\u7df4\u548c\u63d0\u5347\u6e9d\u901a\u548c\u9818\u5c0e\u80fd\u529b\uff0c\u4ed6\u975e\u5e38\u6c11\u4e3b\u7684\u6a02\u610f\u63a5\u53d7\uff0c\u65bc\u662f\u6211\u5011\u7ffb\u8b6f\u5f97\u5f88\u958b\u5fc3\uff0c\u4e0d\u77e5\u4e0d\u89ba\u5c31\u5b78\u5230\u4e26\u6703\u904b\u7528\u4e86\u8a31\u591a\u4f5b\u6559\u82f1\u6587\u540d\u8a5e\u3002<\/strong><br><br>So, in August of last year, I joined this program. After joining, I felt that this course was quite suitable for me. Firstly, it is a program that combines cultivation and academy, with at least two mandatory evening ceremonies in the Buddha Hall each week, although I attend daily. Additionally, most of the afternoon classes, whether the main course is Sanskrit, translation theory, or reading, include a one-and-a-half-hour meditation session, where Dharma masters teach us meditation methods. I now feel that meditation has numerous benefits. Even if our minds are scattered and full of delusions, just sitting for an hour reciting &#8220;Namo Guanyin Bodhisattva&#8221; makes a big difference in our subsequent classes.Secondly, the courses are incredibly useful, especially the translation workshop from Monday to Wednesday. I feel that the students in our cohort are very fortunate and have deep roots in virtue. We started by translating a significant sutra, the King of the Golden Wheel, <em>Avatamsaka Sutra<\/em>. Our group leader, who guides us in translation, is not only knowledgeable in Buddhism but also outstanding and humble. The classroom atmosphere is lively, and everyone feels at ease. Later, I spontaneously suggested that we students take turns being the group leader to train and enhance our communication and leadership skills. The suggestion was accepted democratically and enthusiastically, and as a result, we translated happily, learning and mastering many English Buddhist terms without even realizing it.<br><br><strong>\u6211\u4e5f\u975e\u5e38\u559c\u6b61\u5b83\u7684\u95b1\u8b80\u8ab2\u7a0b\uff0c\u6cd5\u5e2b\u8aaa\u5b89\u6392\u9019\u500b\u8ab2\u7a0b\u6709\u4e00\u500b\u539f\u56e0\u662f\u8b93\u6211\u5011\u5e7e\u500b\u4e9e\u6d32\u5b78\u751f\u4e86\u89e3\u5230\u897f\u65b9\u4eba\u7684\u6587\u5316\uff0c\u601d\u7dad\u548c\u8a9e\u8a00\u7fd2\u6163\uff0c\u5f9e\u800c\u66f4\u597d\u7684\u7ffb\u8b6f\u51fa\u8b93\u897f\u65b9\u4eba\u89ba\u5f97\u66f4\u52a0\u8cbc\u8fd1\u7684\u6587\u7ae0\u3002\u900f\u904e\u95b1\u8b80\u897f\u65b9\u5404\u7a2e\u4e0d\u540c\u5167\u5bb9\u7684\u6587\u7ae0\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u4e5f\u589e\u9577\u4e86\u6211\u5011\u7684\u898b\u8b58\u3002\u4f5b\u7d93\u7ffb\u8b6f\u6703\u6709\u4e00\u7a2e\u7965\u745e\u7684\u6c23\u6c1b\uff0c\u6cd5\u5e2b\u8aaa\uff0c\u672c\u4f86\u6211\u5011\u90a3\u500b\u6559\u5ba4\u611f\u89ba\u5f88\u4e0d\u8212\u670d\u7684\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u81ea\u5f9e\u6211\u5011\u4e00\u8d77\u4e0a\u8ab2\u5f8c\uff0c\u90a3\u500b\u6559\u5ba4\u8b8a\u5f97\u5f88\u8212\u670d\uff0c\u9023\u5b78\u6821\u5099\u53d7\u5c0a\u656c\u7684\u8001\u5e2b\u90fd\u9858\u610f\u4f86\u6211\u5011\u9019\u88e1\u901b\u4e00\u901b\uff0c\u8b1b\u4e00\u8b1b\u3002<\/strong><br><br>I also really enjoy the reading course. The DM said that one of the reasons for arranging this course is to help us Asian students understand Western culture, thinking, and language habits better, so we can translate texts that resonate more with Western people. By reading various Western articles, we also broaden our horizons. There is a kind of auspicious atmosphere when translating Buddhist scriptures. The DM mentioned that our classroom initially felt uncomfortable, but ever since we started the class together, the room has become very pleasant. Even the most respected teachers at the school are willing to visit and chat with us.<br><br><strong>\u6574\u500b\u6cd5\u754c\u5927\u5b78\uff0c\u662f\u7528 shared inquiry (\u5206\u4eab\u7814\u7a76\uff09\u7684\u65b9\u5f0f\u4f86\u4e0a\u8ab2\u7684\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u5b78\u751f\u5011\u4e0a\u8ab2\u6642\u7a4d\u6975\u7684\u767c\u8a00\u548c\u8b1b\u8ff0\u7684\u5167\u5bb9\uff0c\u662f\u6574\u500b\u8ab2\u5802\u7684\u4e3b\u9ad4\uff0c\u8001\u5e2b\u53ea\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u5f15\u5c0e\u65b9\u5411\u7684\u4eba\u3002\u6574\u500b\u6cd5\u5927\u6700\u91cd\u8996\u7684\uff0c\u662f\u6bcf\u500b\u5b78\u751f\u7684\u500b\u9ad4\u548c\u5fc3\u9748\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u6bcf\u500b\u4eba\u90fd\u611f\u53d7\u5230\u4e86\u4ec0\u9ebc\u662f\u4ec1\u6148\uff0c\u9019\u8ddf\u5225\u7684\u5927\u5b78\u53ef\u80fd\u4e0d\u4e00\u6a23\uff0c\u800c\u4e14\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u4e16\u754c\u4e0a\u53ef\u80fd\u6c92\u6709\u7b2c\u4e8c\u500b\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u3002\u5c0d\u65bc\u7576\u6642\u5fc3\u9748\u5343\u7621\u767e\u5b54\uff0c\u60e1\u696d\u60e1\u7fd2\u7e8f\u8eab\u7684\u6211\u4f86\u8b1b\uff0c\u5b83\u6cbb\u7652\u6211\uff0c\u751a\u81f3\u6bcf\u6642\u6bcf\u523b\u90fd\u5728\u5168\u9762\u6cbb\u7652\u6211\uff0c\u5e6b\u52a9\u6211\u671d\u4e00\u500b\u66f4\u5b8c\u5584\u7684\u4eba\u4f86\u8f49\u5316\u3002\u6211\u5176\u5be6\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u6211\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u6539\u8b8a\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u6709\u540c\u5b78\u6bcf\u9694\u4e00\u6bb5\u6642\u9593\uff0c\u5c31\u6703\u544a\u8a34\u6211\uff0c\u8aaa\u5979\u611f\u89ba\u5230\u4e86\u6211\u7684\u6539\u8b8a\uff0c\u548c\u5fc3\u9748\u4e0a\u7684\u5b8c\u5584\u3002\u00a0<\/strong><br><br>The entire Dharma Realm Buddhist University employs a method called shared inquiry in its classes. This means that the active participation and discussions of students form the core of the classroom experience, while the teacher acts merely as a guide. At DRBU, the most valued aspects are the individuality and spirit of each student. We all feel what compassion truly is, which might be different from other universities, and I feel there might not be another place like this in the world. For someone like me, whose heart was once filled with countless wounds and plagued by negative karma and habits, it has been healing me, continuously and comprehensively, helping me transform into a better person. The so-called hardships and obstacles I experienced outside were 80% due to my lack of filial piety toward my mother. I didn&#8217;t listen to her and caused her deep pain. Because of my stubbornness and disobedience, she became more estranged from Buddhism and even started to slander it. This was all my fault, and it was because of me that she became this way, so I committed a great sin. At the end of the fall semester, I returned home for winter break to see my mother. I made a firm vow not to talk back to her, to learn to help with the housework, and to listen quietly if my parents scolded me. When I arrived at the airport, my mother hugged me and cried. She looked smaller, with more wrinkles and a wearier, more haggard appearance than before. She didn&#8217;t look like this before. Why? I knew it wasn&#8217;t just the passage of time; it was also because of me being in the United States. We hadn&#8217;t seen each other in seven or eight years, and I had indeed gone too far. When I returned home and spent time with my mother, she still scolded me frequently and was often dissatisfied with me. This time, I dared not talk back because whenever I did, she would get sick that very day. I told her to let out her anger whenever she felt it. Seeing my mother growing older and in such poor health, I realized that one day, I might no longer be able to see her again. Therefore, I needed to cherish the time spent with her even more.<br><br><strong>\u6211\u5728\u5bb6\u88e1\u5e38\u5e6b\u5fd9\u505a\u5bb6\u52d9\uff0c\u4e5f\u5b78\u8457\u505a\u98ef\uff0c\u8aaa\u4f86\u5f88\u96e3\u582a\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u6211\u5f9e\u5c0f\u5f9e\u4f86\u6c92\u505a\u904e\u5bb6\u52d9\uff0c\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5de5\u4e5f\u4e0d\u6703\u505a\u3002\u6211\u4e3b\u52d5\u7a4d\u6975\u5e6b\u5abd\u5abd\u505a\u5bb6\u52d9\uff0c\u8b93\u5abd\u5abd\u5f88\u6b23\u6170\uff0c\u5979\u8aaa\u5979\u53c8\u770b\u5230\u5e0c\u671b\u4e86\u3002\u56de\u53bb\u5f8c\u6211\u4e5f\u7d66\u7236\u6bcd\u53e9\u982d\uff0c\u96d6\u7136\u5abd\u5abd\u4e0d\u5403\u9019\u5957\uff0c\u4f46\u7238\u7238\u90fd\u54ed\u4e86\u3002\u4e00\u500b\u6708\u6642\u9593\u5f88\u5feb\u904e\u53bb\uff0c\u6211\u6709\u4e9b\u4e8b\u505a\u7684\u9084\u662f\u4e0d\u592a\u597d\uff0c\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u81ea\u5df1\u9084\u662f\u7121\u60c5\uff0c\u4e0d\u5b5d\u9806\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u5b5d\u9806\u7684\u5152\u5973\u80af\u5b9a\u5c31\u7559\u5728\u7236\u6bcd\u8eab\u908a\u7167\u9867\u4ed6\u5011\u4e86\uff0c\u53ef\u662f\u6211\u53c8\u60f3\u4f86\u7f8e\u570b\u7e7c\u7e8c\u4fee\u884c\u4f5b\u6cd5\uff0c\u4e2d\u570b\u73fe\u5728\u4e5f\u6c92\u6709\u4e0a\u4eba\u7684\u9053\u5834\u3002<\/strong><br><br>I also helped out with household chores at home and learning to cook. It&#8217;s quite embarrassing to admit that I&#8217;ve never done any chores since I was young, and I didn&#8217;t know how to do any work. Taking the initiative to help my mom with chores made her very happy; she said she saw hope again. After returning to home, I bowed to my parents. Although my mom didn&#8217;t accept this way, my dad was moved to tears. A month passed quickly, and I still wasn&#8217;t doing some things very well. I felt that I was still unfeeling and unfilial because a truly filial child would stay by their parents&#8217; side to take care of them. She assured me that she was not flattering or being polite but that it was true. During class, classmates also mentioned that I had undergone positive changes. Previously, I was stubborn and wouldn&#8217;t listen to others, but after returning, they said I had become softer and more receptive to others&#8217; opinions. They also noticed that I had leadership qualities and encouraged me to develop them more, which I had never thought I had before. A year passed quickly, and I felt time was flying by. A cohort said this place felt like heaven. I agreed, and it felt like not only heaven but that the longer I stayed here, the more it felt like I was ascending step by step through different layers of heavens. Venerable Master Hua prioritized the translation of Buddhist sutra because it allows countless Westerners and people who speak other languages to access the boundless wisdom of Buddhism over endless time. The merit of this endeavor is immeasurable. Now that the orthodox teachings of Buddhism have taken root in the United States, it is imperative that we contribute to the propagation of the Dharma. Therefore, I sincerely encourage all Dharma friends to actively join in this effort, especially native English speakers. Not knowing Chinese is not an issue; one of the most needed contributions at this stage is to polish our current translations into English that aligns with the linguistic habits of English users, while adhering to Venerable Master Hua&#8217;s eight principles for translating Buddhist scriptures.As for myself, I earnestly hope that through my continuous efforts, I can improve my English to a certain level, diligently study the Buddhist sutras, and continue my practice. I hope that in the future, I will be able to freely and skillfully teach and speak the Dharma to Americans, help them to experience the infinite compassion and wisdom of the Buddha, and the incredible help and salvation Buddhism offers. While residing at Huangbo Monastery, he spent three to four years primarily cooking. At the time, the head monk there saw him as the vessel of Dharma because Linji was sincere and honest, never speaking a word all day so avoided all kinds of lies. One day the head monk asked him, &#8220;How long have you been here?&#8221; &#8220;About three years.&#8221; &#8220;Have you ever requested guidance from the Master?&#8221; &#8220;What does requesting guidance mean?&#8221; He did not understand. The head monk said, &#8220;Put on your robe, grab your sitting cloth, go to the abbot&#8217;s room, pay your respects with nine bows, then kneel and ask him, what is the meaning of Patriarch coming from the west?&#8221; \u201cSure. I didn&#8217;t know what I said wrong when I got there, but as soon as I finished saying this, Master beat me with an incense board.&#8221;&#8221;Oh, then maybe there&#8217;s something wrong with you, or you didn&#8217;t kneel properly, or you clasped your hands together disrespectfully, or you couldn&#8217;t speak clearly and he misheard you. Speak slowly and don&#8217;t panic. Well! You have lived here for so many years and you have not benefited at all. The head monk said: &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid of being beaten. You must forget your body for the sake of the Dharma. Are you afraid of being beaten? The Buddha Shakyamuni originally practiced sacrificing his body to feed tigers and cutting his flesh to feed eagles. That is worse than being beaten. Linji didn&#8217;t remember to take the sitting cloth, he just left. This time he packed up his clothes and said, &#8220;I can&#8217;t live here anymore! I&#8217;ve been cooking for three years, but it&#8217;s hard work without any credit! This Master beat me so rudely, I can&#8217;t live here anymore, I have to leave.&#8221; \u300dThe head monk came again and said, &#8220;Linji, what are you doing?&#8221; &#8220;You almost killed me! I can&#8217;t eat this bowl of rice in this place. I can&#8217;t live here anymore. Even if I will starve to death, I don\u2019t want to live here anymore!\u201d The Head monk said: &#8220;If you want to leave, you have to ask the abbot to go. The abbot has beaten you three times&#8230; If you want to leave now, you have to ask the abbot: where should I go?&#8221;<br><br><strong>\u300c\u6211\u4e0d\u6562\u53bb\u4e86\uff0c\u6211\u5be7\u53ef\u9913\u6b7b\u90fd\u4e0d\u53bb\u8acb\u958b\u793a\u4e86\uff0c\u6211\u4e5f\u4e0d\u60f3\u958b\u609f\u4e86\u3002\u300d\u300c\u4e0d\u8981\u7dca\uff0c\u4f60\u9019\u56de\u53bb\u554a\uff0c\u7121\u8ad6\u5982\u4f55\u548c\u5c1a\u518d\u4e0d\u80fd\u6253\u4f60\u4e86\uff01\u4f60\u5c31\u5230\u90a3\u5152\u5411\u548c\u5c1a\u544a\u5047\u3002\u544a\u5047\u5b8c\u4e86\uff0c\u4f60\u5c31\u8acb\u554f\u548c\u5c1a\uff0c\u4f60\u5230\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5730\u65b9\u53bb\u597d\u554a\uff1f\u300d\u4ed6\u6839\u672c\u6c92\u6709\u5730\u65b9\u53bb\uff0c\u81ea\u5df1\u4e5f\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u54ea\u500b\u5730\u65b9\u6703\u7559\u4ed6\uff0c\u6703\u6709\u98ef\u5403\u3002\u81e8\u6fdf\u7956\u5e2b\u90a3\u500b\u6a23\u5b50\uff0c\u5c31\u9019\u9ebc\u7b28\uff01<\/strong><br><br>&#8220;I don&#8217;t dare to go. Then you ask the abbot where you can go?&#8221; Linji had no place to go, and he didn&#8217;t know where to go. He didn\u2019t know where he would be kept and where he would have food to eat. Patriarch Linji looks so stupid!<br><br><strong>\u4ed6\u9019\u56de\u6536\u62fe\u6771\u897f\u54ed\u54ed\u6e9c\u6e9c\u5730\uff0c\u6c92\u6709\u5730\u65b9\u53bb\uff0c\u9084\u8981\u53bb\u554f\u548c\u5c1a\u56c9\uff01\u9019\u56de\u6c92\u6709\u5177\u4e86\uff0c\u5230\u548c\u5c1a\u90a3\u5730\u65b9\u624d\u628a\u4ed6\u7684\u5177\u53c8\u8981\u56de\u4f86\uff0c\u9802\u79ae\u4e5d\u53e9\u9996\uff0c\u53c8\u9577\u8dea\u5408\u638c\uff0c\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u548c\u5c1a\u6211\u5411\u60a8\u544a\u5047\u3002\u300d\u9ec3\u6a97\u79aa\u5e2b\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u4f60\u544a\u5047\uff0c\u4f60\u5230\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5730\u65b9\u53bb\u554a\uff1f\u5927\u611a\u53bb\u5427\uff01\u300d\u90a3\u6642\u5019\u662f\u639b\u55ae\uff0c\u4f60\u5230\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5730\u65b9\u8981\u6709\u4eba\u4ecb\u7d39\u4f60\u624d\u80fd\u4f4f\u3002\u4ed6\u64d4\u8457\u8863\u55ae\u5c31\u5230\u5927\u611a\u53bb\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><br><br>This time he was packing his things and crying. Sure enough, when a monk came and requested to reside as a guest, he asked what his name was. \u201cMy name is Linji.\u201d The guest prefect informed the abbot. What do you think the abbot monk would do? He took an incense board and kept it at the back. When he came out to meet Linji who didn&#8217;t say a word or opened his mouth at all. The abbot monk of Dayu said, &#8220;This Huangbo is as earnest as an old woman!&#8221; The Huagbo is earnest, as compassionate as an old woman. Dayu started beating Linji with the incense board. He didn\u2019t bother to talk with Linji. While Dayu was beating him, Linji said, &#8220;Okay!&#8221; He went up to grab the incense board and was about to beat Dayu. Dayu said, &#8220;It&#8217;s none of my business. You go and find Huangbo!&#8221;<br><br><strong>\u90a3\u4ed6\u53c8\u56de\u53bb\uff0c\u62ff\u8457\u9999\u677f\u5230\u90a3\u500b\u5730\u65b9\u53bb\u627e\u9ec3\u6a97\u53bb\u4e86\u3002\u9ec3\u6a97\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u597d\u4e86\uff0c\u6211\u8b93\u7d66\u4f60\u4e86\uff01\u300d\u5c31\u53eb\u4ed6\u965e\u5ea7\u505a\u65b9\u4e08\uff0d\uff0d\u9019\u662f\u88ab\u6253\u51fa\u4f86\u7684\uff01\u5927\u611a\u6253\u4ed6\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u624d\u628a\u4ed6\u6253\u958b\u609f\u4e86\u3002\u4f60\u4e0d\u8981\u4ee5\u70ba\u6253\u662f\u4e0d\u597d\uff0c\u6253\u6703\u958b\u609f\u7684\u3002\u4f60\u5011\u8ab0\u60f3\u8981\u958b\u609f\u554a\uff0c\u5c31\u5148\u4f86\u8981\u6328\u6253\u3002<\/strong><br><br>Then he went back and took the incense board to find Huangbo.
