\u8af8\u4f5b\u83e9\u85a9\uff0c\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\uff0c\u8af8\u4f4d\u6cd5\u5e2b\uff0c\u8af8\u4f4d\u5584\u77e5\u8b58\uff0c\u963f\u5f4c\u9640\u4f5b<\/strong>\uff01<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, Ven. Master Hua, DMs, Good advisors, Amitabha<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6211\u7684\u6cd5\u540d\u662f\u89aa\u8aa0\uff0c\u8aa0\u5fc3\u7684\u8aa0\u3002\u53bb\u5e748<\/strong>\u6708\u4f86\u5230\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u6b21\u4f86\u3002\u4e3b\u8981\u662f\u4f86\u6cd5\u5927\u8b80<\/strong>\u78a9\u58eb<\/strong>. <\/strong>\u4f86\u6cd5\u5927\u4e0a\u5b78\uff0c\u770b\u8d77\u4f86\u5f88\u5e73\u5e38\uff0c\u5176\u5be6\u4e5f\u5f88\u4e0d\u5bb9\u6613\u3002\u6700\u65e9<\/strong>20<\/strong>19\u5e74\u5c31\u7533\u8acb\u4e26\u7372\u5f97\u9304\u53d6\uff0c2020\u5e74\u61c9\u8a72\u4f86\u8b80\u66f8\u7684\u3002\u56e0\u7232\u75ab\u60c5\uff0c\u76f4\u5230<\/strong>20<\/strong>23\u5e74\u624d\u843d\u5be6\u884c\u52d5\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         My dharma name is Qin Cheng; Cheng means sincerity. I came to CTTB in August last year. This was my first time. I came for the MA program in DRBU. Studying in DRBU looks ordinary, however, it is not that easy for me. I first applied for the program and was admitted in 2019. I was supposed to study here in 2020. Due to the Covid-19, I didn\u2019t start the program until 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n

\u7c3d\u8b49\u4e5f\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u6311\u6230\u3002<\/strong>\u4ef2<\/strong>\u4ecb\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\u670b\u53cb\u5011\u7d66\u4e86\u6211\u8a31\u591a\u4fe1\u606f\u3001\u6d41\u7a0b\u65b9\u9762\u7684\u5e6b\u52a9\uff0c<\/strong>   <\/strong>\u7121\u5f62\u4e2d\uff0c\u4e5f\u589e\u52a0\u4e86\u6211\u7684\u7169\u60f1\uff0c\u56e0\u7232\u4ed6\u5011\u8a8d\u7232\u6211\u9019\u500b\u60c5\u6cc1\u975e\u5e38\u96e3<\/strong>\u7c3d<\/strong>\u3002\u6211\u5f97\u5230\u7684\u6700\u5927\u7684\u9f13\u52f5\u5c31\u662f\uff1a\u4f60\u8a66\u8a66\u5427\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         Getting a visa is another challenge. My friends who work in study-abroad agencies help me a lot with information and procedures. But at the same time, they gave me afflictions, because in their eyes, my case was very hard. The greatest encouragement I got: you just try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u53bb\u5317\u4eac\u7684\u8def\u4e0a\uff0c\u6211\u5ff5\u4e86<\/strong>1<\/strong>\u842c\u904d\u5730\u85cf\u738b\u83e9\u85a9\u540d\u865f\u3002\u5176\u5be6\u7576\u6642\u5fc3\u88cf\u6bd4\u8f03\u7a69\u5b9a\u3002\u6392\u968a\u6642\u9593\u5f88\u9577\uff0c\u5dee\u4e0d\u591a\u5f9e\u6700\u958b\u59cb\u5230\u898b\u5230\u7c3d\u8b49\u5b98\u8981<\/strong>2-3<\/strong>\u500b\u5c0f\u6642\u3002<\/strong>\u671f\u9593\uff0c\u52aa\u529b\u5ff5\u5730\u85cf\u738b\u83e9\u85a9\u540d\u865f\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u6392\u5728\u6211\u5f8c\u9762\u7684\u4eba\uff0c\u672c\u4f86\u633a\u53cb\u597d\u7684\uff0c\u53ef\u662f\u7576\u5979\u554f\u6211\u7684\u5e74\u9f61\u6642\uff0c\u628a\u6211\u5f04\u7684\u975e\u5e38\u7dca\u5f35\u3002<\/strong> <\/strong>\u5728\u5927\u9678\uff0c\u6211\u7684\u5e74\u9f61\uff0c\u6b63\u5e38\u61c9\u8a72\u7d50\u5a5a\u751f\u5b50\uff0c\u5b69\u5b50\u5c0f\u5b78\u90fd\u8981\u7562\u696d\u4e86\u3002\u90a3\u7a2e\u72f9\u9698\u7684\u89c0\u5ff5\uff0c\u4e5f\u9650\u5236\u4e86\u6211\uff0c\u4e00\u4e0b\u5c31\u7dca\u5f35\u8d77\u4f86\uff0c\u56e0\u7232\u9019\u7a2e\u5927\u9f61\u672a\u5a5a\u5c6c\u65bc\u7c3d\u8b49\u96e3\u8fa6\u7684\u4e00\u7a2e\u3002\u5e36\u7740\u7dca\u5f35\uff0c\u958b\u59cb\u4e86\u9762\u7c3d\uff0c\u7d50\u679c\u4e0d\u7528\u554f\u4e86\u3002\u7576\u6642\u662f3<\/strong>\u670813<\/strong>\u65e5\u3002<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         On the way to Beijing, I recited \u201cNa mo di zang wang pu sa\u201d 10,000 times. I felt stable. The queue was very long. From getting there to meeting with the visa officer, it almost took 2-3 hours. During that time, I kept reciting  \u201cNa mo di zang wang pu sa\u201d .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

         The person behind me was quite friendly. However, when she asked me my age, that really triggered my nervousness. In the mainland, people of my age usually already get married and have children. The kids probably are old enough to graduate from elementary schools. This narrow presupposition limited me, too. All of a sudden, I became nervous. Being single at this age was regarded as hard to get the visa. With this nervousness, I went to my visa interview. You needn\u2019t ask me about the result. That day was Mar. 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u5317\u4eac\u56de\u4f86\uff0c\u6709\u7169\u60f1\u3002\u62ff\u4e0d\u5b9a\u4e3b\u610f\u4ec0\u9ebc\u6642\u5019\u518d<\/strong>\u7c3d<\/strong>\u3002\u5f97\u5230\u7684\u5efa\u8b70\u57fa\u672c\u8981\u9694<\/strong>3<\/strong>\u500b\u6708\u3002<\/strong>  <\/strong>3<\/strong>\u500b\u6708\u5f8c\u5c316<\/strong>\u6708\u4efd\uff0c\u6a5f\u7968\u6703\u8cb4\uff0c\u842c\u4e00\u518d\u88ab\u62d2\uff0c\u518d\u7533\u8acb\uff0c\u6050\u6015\u6642\u9593\u4e0d\u5145\u88d5\uff0c\u56e0\u72328<\/strong>\u67085<\/strong>\u865f\u8981\u5230\u6821\u3002\u6700\u5f8c\u662f5<\/strong>\u670815<\/strong>\u865f\u518d\u7c3d\uff0c\u4e26\u4e14\u9806\u5229\u62ff\u5230\u7c3d\u8b49\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         Coming back from Beijing, I was afflicted. I had no idea when to reapply for the visa interview. Many people suggested that I do it after 3 months. That means in June. At that time, the flight ticket might be too expensive. In addition, if the application got rejected again, I might not have enough time for a third visa interview because we were supposed to arrive at DRBU on Aug. 5. At last, I had the interview on May 15 and the application was successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u56de\u60f3\u8d77\u4f86\uff0c\u671f\u9593\u6709\u4e09\u4ef6\u4e8b\u5f71\u97ff\u6bd4\u8f03\u5927\u3002\u5177\u9ad4\u6642\u9593\u8a18\u4e0d\u6e05\u4e86\uff0c\u4e09\u4ef6\u4e8b\u90fd\u91cd\u8981\u3002\u4e00\u662f\u4f86\u81ea\u670b\u53cb\u5206\u4eab\u3002\u4e0a\u4eba\u56de\u570b\u628a\u300a\u5730\u85cf\u7d93\u300b\u5206\u7d66\u89aa\u621a\uff0c\u4e26\u544a\u8a34\u4ed6\u5011\uff0c\u60f3\u4f86\u7f8e\u570b\uff0c\u80cc\u6703\u300a\u5730\u85cf\u7d93\u300b\u3002\u9019\u500b\u81ea\u5df1\u4e4b\u524d\u4e5f\u898b\u904e\u3002\u5be6\u969b\u4e0a\uff0c\u7b2c\u4e00\u6b21\u7c3d\u8b49\u524d\uff0c\u77e5\u9053\u81ea\u5df1\u689d\u4ef6\u4e0d\u597d\uff0c\u5c31\u61c9\u8a72\u4e0b\u529f\u592b\u80cc\uff0c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u4e0d\u61c9\u8a72\u5fc3\u5b58\u50e5\u5016\uff0c\u5c0e\u81f4\u7d50\u679c\u4e0d\u597d\u3002\u6240\u4ee5\u6211\u958b\u59cb\u80cc\u300a\u5730\u85cf\u7d93\u300b\u3002\u4e0a\u90e8\u80cc\u5f97\u6bd4\u8f03\u719f\uff0c\u56e0\u7232\u6bcf\u6b21\u90fd\u662f\u5f9e\u7b2c\u4e00\u9801\u958b\u59cb\u80cc\u3002\u5f8c\u9762\u5c31\u4e0d\u90a3\u9ebc\u719f\u4e86\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u52c9\u5f37\u80cc\u5b8c\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         In reflection, three things were important. First, one friend shared with me a reading. In the reading, Ven. Master Hua came back to his hometown and distributed Earth Store Sutra<\/em> to his relatives. He told them, if they wanted to come to the USA, memorize this sutra. Actually, I read this before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

         In fact, I should have memorized it before the first application for the visa since I already knew that my conditions were not as favorable as supposed to be. I shouldn\u2019t try my luck, and it turned out to be no good luck. So I started to memorize the sutra. Part I, I could recite from memory quite fluently, because every time, I started to memorize from page 1. I managed to memorize all, though I was less familiar with the latter parts compared to Part I.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u7b2c\u4e8c\u4ef6\u4e8b\uff0c\u8b5a\u8001\u5e2b\u6709\u500b\u5fae\u4fe1\u7fa3\uff0c\u6709\u4e00\u5929\u6709\u500b\u6d88\u606f\u8aaa\uff0c\u52a0\u62ff\u5927\u83ef\u56b4\u5bfa\u8981\u5b89\u7f6e\u5730\u85cf\u83e9\u85a9\uff0c\u865f\u53ec\u5168\u7403\u4f5b\u53cb\u6284\u7d93\u88dd\u85cf\u3002\u6700\u958b\u59cb\u6709\u9ede\u64d4\u5fc3\u6284\u7d93\u8981\u82b1\u6642\u9593\uff0c\u6700\u5f8c\u60f3\u6284\u7d93\u90a3\u9ebc\u6b8a\u52dd\uff0c\u6703\u5c0d\u7c3d\u8b49\u6709\u5e6b\u52a9\uff0c\u5c31\u6284\u4e86\u3002\u4e8b\u5be6\u4e0a\uff0c\u6284\u4e86\u5169\u904d\uff0c\u56e0\u7232\u7b2c\u4e00\u904d\u6709\u932f\u5225\u5b57\u3002\u7b2c\u4e8c\u904d\u4e5f\u6709\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u6bd4\u7b2c\u4e00\u904d\u5c11\u3002\u76f4\u5230\u7b2c\u4e8c\u6b21\u7c3d\u8b49\u90a3\u5929\u65e9\u6668\u624d\u6284\u5b8c\u3002<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         Second, Ms. Madalena has a wechat group. One day, I read a message: The Avatamsaka Temple in Canada was going to arrange a new Earth Store Bodhisattva statue and called on all dharma friends on earth to copy sutras and mantras. The copies would be put into the statue. At first, I worried about the amount of time it would take to copy the Earth Store Sutra. But at last, I thought this event was so supreme and wondrous that I should participate. It might help the visa application. So I did it. And I did it twice, because the first time, I had several wrong characters. I copied again, there were still wrong characters, but less than the first copy. I didn\u2019t finish copying the whole sutra until the morning when I had the second interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u7b2c\u4e09\u4ef6\u4e8b\uff0c\u671f\u9593\u62dc\u8a2a\u4e86\u4e00\u500b\u8001\u5e2b\uff0c\u689d\u4ef6\u975e\u5e38\u597d\uff0c\u5c31\u662f<\/strong>\u4ef2<\/strong>\u4ecb\u773c\u4e2d\uff0c\u4ec0\u9ebc\u689d\u4ef6\u90fd\u6eff\u8db3\uff0c\u7372\u7c3d\u5e7e\u4e4e\u6c92\u4ec0\u9ebc\u554f\u984c\u3002\u4f46\u662f\u9019\u4f4d\u8001\u5e2b\u8aaa\u4ed6\u88ab\u62d2\u4e86\u3002\u7531\u6b64\uff0c\u7d66\u6211\u4e86\u5553\u793a\u3002\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5553\u793a\u5462\uff1f\u689d\u4ef6\u6eff\u8db3\u4e86\u4e0d\u4e00\u5b9a\u7372<\/strong>\u7c3d<\/strong>\u3002\u7c3d\u8b49\u4e0d\u901a\u904e\uff0c<\/strong>\u4ef2<\/strong>\u4ecb\u6703\u8b1b\u4f60\u7f3a\u9019\u500b\u5c11\u90a3\u500b\u3002\u53ef\u662f\u4ec0\u9ebc\u90fd\u4e0d\u7f3a\u4e5f\u6c92\u904e\uff0c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u4ed6\u5011\u5c31\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u539f\u56e0\u4e86\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\uff0c\u6211\u4e0d\u518d\u7232\u5c11\u4e86\u6240\u8b02\u7684\u689d\u4ef6\u7dca\u5f35\uff0c\u6cae\u55aa\u3002<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         Third, I visited one teacher who had very favorable conditions and it seemed impossible for him to get rejected for the visa application. But he told me he got rejected. From this I had an inspiration. Fulfilling all conditions does not guarantee that you will get the visa approval. Because of this, I was able to de-link myself from dejection and nervousness that arose from lacking so-called conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u6211\u9084\u806f\u7e6b\u4e86\u6cd5\u5927\u7684\u8001\u5e2b\uff0c\u5c0d\u7c3d\u8b49\u554f\u984c\u548c\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u56de\u7b54\u505a\u51fa\u4e86\u6307\u6b63\uff0c\u4e26\u544a\u8a34\u81ea\u5df1\u9084\u53ef\u4ee5\u6e96\u5099\u4ec0\u9ebc\u6750\u6599\uff0c\u6211\u7167\u505a\u4e86\uff0c\u9019\u5c0d\u4e8c\u6b21\u7372\u7c3d\u6709\u76f4\u63a5\u5e6b\u52a9\u3002\u56e0\u7232\u7b2c\u4e8c\u6b21\u554f\u5230\u4e86\u540c\u6a23\u7684\u554f\u984c\u3002<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         I also contacted DRBU faculty who guided me with regard to answering questions and gave me suggestions on the preparation of application materials. This is directly conducive to the successful second interview because I got the same questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u96d6\u7136\u6211\u8aaa\u4e0d\u6e05\u7b2c\u4e8c\u6b21\u662f\u600e\u9ebc\u62ff\u5230\u7c3d\u8b49\u7684\uff0c\u4f46\u80af\u5b9a\u662f\u4e0a\u4eba\u548c\u5730\u85cf\u83e9\u85a9\u52a0\u6301\u7684\u3002<\/strong>  <\/strong>\u7232\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5462\u3002\u9996\u5148\uff0c\u7576\u6642\u56de\u7b54\u554f\u984c\uff0c\u601d\u8def\u7279\u5225\u6e05\u6670\uff0c\u76f4\u63a5\uff0c\u654f\u6377\uff0c\u5b8c\u5168\u8d85\u51fa\u4e86\u5e73\u5e38\u56de\u7b54\u554f\u984c\u7684\u6c34\u5e73\u3002\u5176\u6b21\uff0c\u7576\u6642\u5e36\u4e86\u4e00\u4e9b\u81ea\u5df1\u80cc\u904e\u7684\u6750\u6599\uff0c\u5305\u62ec\u300a\u5730\u85cf\u7d93\u300b\u3002<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         I didn\u2019t know exactly how I got the visa approval the second time, but I believed that I was blessed by Ven. Master Hua and Earth Store Bodhisattva. Why? Because the way I answered the questions was far better than I usually can do. The answers were very clear, direct, and without hesitation. What\u2019s more, I was taking with me some memorization materials, including Earth Store Sutra<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u554f\u4e86\u4e00\u4e9b\u554f\u984c\uff0c\u7c3d\u8b49\u5b98\u4e2d\u9593\u53bbcheck<\/strong>\uff08<\/strong>\u67e5\u8b49\uff09<\/strong>\uff0c\u53bb\u4e86\u5f88\u4e45\uff0c\u611f\u89ba\u670910<\/strong>\u5206\u9418\u3002\u900f\u904e\u73bb\u7483\uff0c<\/strong> <\/strong>\u770b\u5230\u5f8c\u9762\u6392\u968a\u7684\u4eba\uff0c\u9084\u6709usher<\/strong>\uff08\u5f15\u5c0e\u54e1\uff09<\/strong>\u4f86\u6211\u6392\u968a\u7684\u7a97\u53e3\u770b\u4ec0\u9ebc\u60c5\u6cc1\uff0c\u597d\u50cf\u6211\u7528\u4e86\u6bd4\u5225\u4eba\u9577\u5f88\u591a\u7684\u6642\u9593\u3002\u901a\u5e38\uff0c2-3<\/strong>\u5206\u9418\u5c31\u7d50\u675f\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         After several questions, the visa officer left his seat and went inside to check. He was away for a long time. It felt like 10 mins or so. From the reflection of the glass, I saw people standing in queues and the usher who came to my window to check the situation, because I was kept there for much more time than people in front of other counters. Usually, the interview takes 2-3 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u7b49\u5f85\u671f\u9593\uff0c\u6211\u5f88\u7dca\u5f35\uff0c\u4f7f\u52c1\u5ff5\u5357\u7121\u5730\u85cf\u738b\u83e9\u85a9\uff0c\u5357\u7121\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\uff0c\u4f7f\u52c1\u60f3\u4e0a\u4eba\u8aaa\u7684<\/strong>\u201ceverything <\/strong>is<\/strong> <\/strong>ok\u201d.<\/strong>\u6211\u6c92\u6709\u807d\u904e\u4e0a\u4eba\u539f\u8072\u9304\u97f3\u662f\u600e\u9ebc\u8b1b\u9019\u500b\u53e5\u5b50\u7684\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u9019\u500b\u53e5\u5b50\uff0c\u898b\u904e\u5f88\u591a\u904d\u3002<\/strong>\u6709\u4e00\u524e\u90a3\uff0c\u81ea\u5df1\u60f3\uff0c\u842c\u4e00\u9019\u6b21\u88ab\u62d2\u600e\u9ebc\u8fa6\uff1f\u6211\u89ba\u5f97\u81ea\u5df1\u9019\u6b21\u6e96\u5099\u5f97\u975e\u5e38\u5145\u5206\uff0c\u4e0b\u4e00\u6b21\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u6703\u4e0d\u6703\u6bd4\u9019\u6b21\u8868\u73fe\u66f4\u597d\u4e86\u3002\u7e7c\u7e8c\u5ff5\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

         While I was waiting, I was very nervous and kept reciting \u201c Na mo di zang wang pu sa; Na mo Ven. Master Hua\u201d. I kept telling myself \u201ceverything will be ok\u201d \u2014 a sentence said by Master Hua. Although I have never heard how Master Hua say that in his original voice, I have read this sentence many, many times. At one moment, I was thinking, \u201cwhat if the visa application gets rejected?\u201d I indeed felt that I was very well prepared this time. I couldn\u2019t imagine that I could perform any better  next time. Anyway, I kept reciting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

         When the visa officer came back, he asked me which one was my favorite among the materials I brought. I told him it depended on the time. This year I like this best, because I have memorized it recently. With this, I held up the Earth Store Sutra<\/em> and showed it to him across the glass. He asked: \u201cWhat book is that\u201d? I replied: Earth Store Sutra<\/em>. He asked further: \u201cWhat is it about\u201d? My first thought was that Master Hua said it was a sutra on Buddhist filial piety. But I was not confident to pronounce \u201cfilial piety\u201d correctly, so I replied: \u201cBe kind to your mother\u201d. I continued, \u201cin the sutra, the daughter saved her mother from the three evil paths \u2013 hell, hungry ghosts, and animals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

         Then the visa officer asked: \u201cwhat is the first sentence?\u201d Replied in Chinese: \u201c\u5982\u662f\u6211\u805eru shi wo wen\u201d, with English translation, thus I have heard. But, it occurred to me that I should continue to recite from memory more text; since all sutras start with this sentence, if I stopped here, I could not prove that I have memorized the sutra. So I didn\u2019t stop and continued to recite more (in Chinese): \u201cAt one time, the Buddha was in the Trayastrimsha Heaven speaking Dharma for his mother. At that time, uncountably many Buddhas and Great Bodhisattvas Mahasattvas from infinite worlds in the ten directions assembled to praise how Shakyamuni Buddha is able to manifest powerfully great wisdom and spiritual penetrations in the evil world of the Five Turbidities. They lauded how he regulates and subdues the obstinate beings so that they can learn what causes suffering and what brings bliss. Each one sent his attendants to pay their respects to the World Honored One. At that time the Thus Come One smiled and emitted billions of great light clouds. There was the light cloud of great fulfillment, the light cloud of great compassion, the light cloud of great wisdom, the light cloud of great prajna, the light clout of great samadhi, the light cloud of great auspiciousness, the light cloud of great blessings, the light cloud of great merit, the light cloud of great refuge, and the light cloud of great praise\u201d (BTTS translation). I was about to recite \u201cthe light cloud of great refuge\u201d when the visa officer signaled me to stop by raising his hand (he kept looking at his computer screen; he\u2019s a westerner). Then he turned to me, saying: \u201cCongratulations! Enjoy your study!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

         It says in the Sutra: \u201cEarth Store, Earth Store, your spiritual powers, compassion, wisdom, and eloquence are inconceivable\u201d. \u201cIn the future, good men or women may want to fulfill millions of billions of vows and to succeed in as many undertakings both in the present and the future. They need only take refuge with, gaze upon, worship, make offerings to, and praise images of Earth Store Bodhisattva.
