The 19th day of the 9th month is the commemoration day of Guanyin Bodhisattvas entering the monastic life. &nbsp;So I would like to share Guanyin Bodhisattva&#8217;s practices and the 30 essential guidelines for monastics from the Patriarch, so that we can learn together to increase and solidify and make firm our aspiration for the Way, so we can return to our origin.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u6211\u5011\u8981\u5ff5\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u7684\u540d\u865f\u5462\uff1f\u8981\u6253\u89c0\u97f3\u4e03\uff0c\u5ff5\u89c0\u97f3\u540d\u865f\uff0c\u9084\u6709\u79aa\u5750\u4fee\u884c\uff0c\u8ff4\u5149\u8fd4\u7167\uff1f<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u56e0\u70ba\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u662f\u6709\u6c42\u5fc5\u61c9\uff0c\u8ab0\u6c42\u4ed6\uff0c\u4ed6\u5c31\u7b54\u61c9\u8ab0\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u9019\u5e7e\u500b\u5b57\uff0c\u89c0\u662f\u4e00\u7a2e\u89c0\u667a\uff0c\u80fd\u89c0\u7684\u667a\u6167\uff0c\u4e16\u97f3\u662f\u6240\u89c0\u7684\u5883\u754c\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u80fd\u89c0\u7684\u667a\u6167\uff0c\u6240\u89c0\u7684\u5883\u754c\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u89c0\u4e16\u9593\u6240\u6709\u4e00\u5207\u7684\u5883\u754c\uff0c\u6240\u6709\u4e00\u5207\u7684\u97f3\u8072\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u9019\u500b\u97f3\u8072\u6709\u82e6\u8072\u3001\u6a02\u8072\u3001\u5584\u8072\u3001\u60e1\u8072\u3001\u6709\u597d\u8072\u3001\u58de\u8072\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u770b\u4e16\u754c\u7a2e\u7a2e\u7684\u97f3\u8072\uff0c\u4ed6\u5c31\u96a8\u5fc3\u6eff\u9858\uff0c\u6240\u6709\u7684\u773e\u751f\u7121\u8ad6\u6c42\u4ec0\u9ebc\uff0c\u5411\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u7948\u6c42\uff0c\u90a3\u9ebc\u89c0\u4e16\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u4e00\u5b9a\u5c31\u4ee4\u4ed6\u9042\u5fc3\u6eff\u9858\u3002<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So why do we recite, or why do we want to be mindful of Guanyin Bodhisattva? Why do we come to participate in the Guanyin session? Why do we engage in Chan meditation, or even return the light to reflect within? The reason why we are mindful of Guanyin Bodhisattva is because he will respond to every single request in your heart. Whoever seeks his help, whoever he will respond to. So Guan Shi Yin Bodhisattva, these few characters, Guan means to contemplate. It is the wisdom of contemplation. This is the wisdom that&#8217;s capable of contemplation. Shi Yin means the sound of the world. That is the state that we are contemplating, we are observing. So it is the wisdom that can contemplate, to contemplate or observe the state that we are contemplating. Basically, it&#8217;s contemplating all the states in the world. All the voices, the sound, sound of suffering, sound of bliss, wholesome sound, evil sound, good sound, bad sounds. So Guanyin Bodhisattva would contemplate all kinds of sounds, all kinds of voices, then he will fulfill your wish. Whatever living beings seek, when you ask Guanyin Bodhisattva for aid, then Guanyin Bodhisattva will certainly fulfill your wishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u6211\u5011\u62ff\u4e00\u500b\u4f8b\u5b50\u4f86\u8aaa\uff0c\u5ba3\u5316\u4e0a\u4eba\u5728\u6771\u5317\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u4ed6\u5e36\u8457\u4e00\u4e9b\u5c0f\u5b69\u5b50\u5011\u53bb\u6709\u75ab\u60c5\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u5ff5\u5927\u60b2\u5492\uff0c\u5f88\u8aa0\u5fc3\u7684\u5ff5\uff0c\u7d50\u679c\u75ab\u60c5\u5168\u90fd\u6d88\u6ec5\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u5462\uff1f\u56e0\u70ba\u5ba3\u5316\u4e0a\u4eba\u8aaa\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u6211\u4e0d\u6253\u5984\u60f3\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u5ff5\u5927\u60b2\u5492\u7684\u6642\u5019\uff0c\u4ee4\u5230\u4e8b\u60c5\u5c31\u611f\u61c9\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u6240\u4ee5\u89c0\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u7684\u6cd5\u9580\u6c92\u6709\u5225\u7684\uff0c\u5c31\u662f\u8aa0\u5fc3\uff0c\u6c92\u6709\u5984\u60f3\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\u4e5f\u52a0\u4e86\u4e00\u9ede\uff0c\u4ed6\u8aaa\u56e0\u70ba\u4ed6\u4e5f\u5b88\u8457\u516d\u5927\u5b97\u65e8\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u5c31\u6703\u6709\u611f\u61c9\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u6c92\u6709\u5984\u60f3\uff0c\u4e3b\u8981\u5c31\u662f\u6c92\u6709\u7169\u60f1\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u6211\u5011\u51fa\u5bb6\uff0c\u4eca\u5929\u662f\u6211\u5011\u5927\u5bb6\u51fa\u5bb6\uff0c\u6700\u4e3b\u8981\u5c31\u662f\u8981\u51fa\u7169\u60f1\u4e4b\u5bb6\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u6240\u4ee5\u73fe\u5728\u8ddf\u5927\u5bb6\u5206\u4eab\u7956\u5e2b\u8a13\u8aa8\u51fa\u5bb6\u7684\u4e09\u5341\u8981\u5247\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u8981\u662f\u6211\u5011\u8ddf\u8457\u9019\u4e09\u5341\u500b\u8981\u5247\u53bb\u4fee\u7684\u8a71\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u5fc5\u5b9a\u80fd\u5920\u51fa\u7169\u60f1\u4e4b\u5bb6\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u7169\u60f1\u4e4b\u5bb6\uff0c\u81ea\u7136\u5c31\u6c92\u6709\u5984\u60f3\uff0c\u4e5f\u80fd\u5920\u9054\u5230\u89c0\u97f3\u83e9\u85a9\u548c\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\u7684\u6e05\u6de8\u4fee\u884c\u6cd5\u3002<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, I want to share with you a story by the Venerable Master. In northeast China, when he was there, he took some children to a place where a pandemic or plague had occurred, and he would have them recite the Great Compassion Mantra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eventually, the plagues were gone. Why was it so efficacious? Because the Venerable Master said, \u201cI don&#8217;t have any false thoughts. I don&#8217;t strike up any false thoughts. So when I recite the Great Compassion Mantra, it is efficacious and brings a response.\u201d The Venerable Master also talked about how if we follow and adhere to the Six Great Principles, then the mantra, when recited, will also be efficacious. Without delusions, mainly, there is no trouble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, for monastics as we are, the most important thing is to get rid of the house of afflictions. So now I would like to share with you the 30 principles for monastics by the patriarchs. If we follow these 30 principles in our practice, then we will definitely leave the house of afflictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because when we leave the home life, we are leaving the home of afflictions. So I would like to share the 30 essential guidelines by the patriarchs that give us some directions in how to practice. If we can follow these 30 essential guidelines, then we will certainly leave the home of afflictions. By leaving the home of afflictions, naturally, there will be no more delusions, and one will be able to achieve the pure practice Dharma of Guanyin Bodhisattva and Venerable Master Hua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u771f\u53c3\u79aa\uff0c\u53c3\u900f\u672a\u751f\u4ee5\u524d\uff1b\u4e00\u65e5\u51e1\u8ec0\u812b\u843d\uff0c\u9748\u5149\u666e\u852d\u4eba\u5929\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Entering the monastic life, One Must Truly Cultivate Chan<\/strong>. Penetrate the chan topic: who was I before birth? One day, the mundane self will shed, and spiritual light will shine on humans and heavens.<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u52e4\u5ff5\u4f5b\uff0c\u5ff5\u5ff5\u8981\u751f\u5f7c\u570b\uff1b\u5ff5\u5230\u4e0d\u5ff5\u800c\u5ff5\uff0c\u5f4c\u9640\u4e0d\u5f9e\u4ed6\u5f97\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Entering the monastic life, One Must Be Mindful of the Buddha&#8217;s Name<\/strong><br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Each thought must strive to be reborn in that Land;<br>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Recite mindfully to a point as if not reciting, Then Amitabha is not attained through another\u2019s hand.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u8654\u79ae\u4f5b\uff0c\u6d88\u76e1\u5e73\u751f\u7f6a\u696d\uff1b\u8d99\u5dde\u4e8c\u738b\u4f9b\u990a\uff0c\u4fbf\u662f\u9019\u500b\u6cd5\u5247\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;Entering the monastic life, One Must Respectfully Bow to the Buddha<\/strong><br>&nbsp;Eliminating all karmic debts accumulated through life;<br>&nbsp;The offerings to Monk Zhao Zhou from the two Kings,<br>&nbsp;This is the true principle of practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u4e8c\u738b\u662f\u6307\u7576\u6642\u7684\u71d5\u738b\u548c\u8d99\u738b<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u4ed6\u5011\u6709\u4e00\u500b\u554f\u984c\uff0c\u554f\u4e86\u4ec0\u9ebc\uff1f\u662f\u6cd5\u738b\u5c0a\u8cb4\u9084\u662f\u4eba\u738b\u5c0a\u8cb4<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\uff1f\u7d50\u679c\u8d99\u5dde\u8aaa\uff0c\u6cd5\u738b\u8ddf\u4eba\u738b\u90fd\u662f\u540c\u6a23\u5c0a\u8cb4\u7684<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u56e0\u70ba\u4eba\u738b\u6709\u81ea\u6027\u4f5b\uff0c\u6cd5\u738b\u5c31\u662f\u5df2\u7d93\u6210\u4f5b\u7684\u4f5b\u3002<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u6240\u4ee5\u8d99\u5dde\u738b\u548c\u71d5\u738b\u5c31\u4e0d\u6253\u4ed7\u4e86\uff0c<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u5169\u4f4d\u548c\u5408\uff0c\u5c31\u7688\u4f9d\u4e86\u8d99\u5dde\u548c\u5c1a<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>\u6240\u4ee5\u7f6a\u696d\u5c31\u6d88\u9664\u4e86\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two kings made offerings to Monk Zhaozhou, and this demonstrates the true principle of practice. So what does it mean that the two kings made offerings to Monk Zhaozhou? This refers to the king of the state of Yan and the king of the state of Zhao. Both were on the brink of war, and one day they asked Monk Zhaozhou which one was more honorable: the king of humans or the king of Dharma? Monk Zhaozhou replied that they are both equal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Why? Because the king of humans has the Buddha nature inherent in our nature, and will eventually become a Buddha. The king of Dharma is already a Buddha, having realized Buddhahood. Since both kings have the Buddha nature, they found this answer satisfactory, decided to stop the war, and took refuge with Monk Zhaozhou and their karmic offenses were eradicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u6301\u6212\u884c\uff0c\u6212\u662f\u4f5b\u7956\u6b63\u4ee4\uff1b\u53d7\u6212\u4e0d\u5b88\u6bd7\u5c3c\uff0c\u5f92\u52de\u55aa\u8eab\u5931\u547d\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Entering the monastic life, One Must Uphold the Precepts<\/strong><br>The precepts are the Buddha&#8217;s rightful command;<br>To receive the precepts but not keep the Vinaya,<br>Is to toil in vain, losing both life and spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u5e38\u5ff5\u7d93\uff0c\u60df\u8aa0\u5831\u7b54\u56db\u6069\uff1b\u4fe1\u53e3\u5ff5\u51fa\u56db\u5b57\uff0c\u81ea\u6210\u5927\u85cf\u5168\u6587\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Entering the monastic life, One Must Often Recite Sutras<\/strong><br>With sincerity to repay the four kindnesses;<br>Reciting even a single character with faith,<br>Forms the complete teachings of the Tripitaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u53bb\u807d\u6559\uff0c\u4e0d\u7136\u958b\u53e3\u4e82\u9053\uff1b\u80f8\u4e2d\u534a\u5b57\u4e0d\u7559\uff0c\u4f5b\u7956\u958b\u984f\u542b\u7b11\u3002<\/strong><strong><br><\/strong><strong>&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Seek to Listen to the Teachings<\/strong><br>&nbsp; Otherwise, speaking carelessly leads to chaos;<br>&nbsp; With no word left unexamined,<br>&nbsp; The Buddha smiles with joy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u656c\u5e2b\u9577\uff0c\u96a8\u529b\u96a8\u6642\u4f9b\u990a\uff1b\u767e\u5b5d\u4e0d\u5982\u4e00\u9806\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ef\u56de\u982d\u5014\u5f37\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Entering the monastic life, One Must Respect Teachers and Elders<\/strong><br>Offerings according to one&#8217;s ability and timing;<br>A hundred acts of filiality cannot match a single act of respect and obedience,<br>Do not turn back to stubbornness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u5b78\u8001\u6210\uff0c\u7b2c\u4e00\u4e0d\u53ef\u8a87\u80fd\uff1b\u7316\u72c2\u786c\u6c23\u7c97\u758f\uff0c\u795e\u4eba\u4e00\u898b\u751f\u778b\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Entering the monastic life, One Must Learn True Sincerity and to Be Mature<\/strong><br>Above all, do not boast of your abilities;<br>Arrogance and coarse demeanor,<br>Will provoke anger in wise beings at first sight.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u6559\u5f92\u5f1f\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ef\u96a8\u4ed6\u904a\u6232\uff1b\u8ac4\u8ac4\u6559\u990a\u6210\u4eba\uff0c\u597d\u4f5c\u4f5b\u9580\u5927\u5668\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Teach Disciples<\/strong><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/strong><br>&nbsp; Do not follow and indulge in their games;<br>&nbsp; Gently nurture them into talents,<br>&nbsp; To become great vessels of the Buddha&#8217;s teachings.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u9664\u61f6\u60f0\uff0c\u51e1\u4e8b\u5411\u524d\u53bb\u505a\uff1b\u4f60\u82e5\u907f\u61f6\u5077\u5b89\uff0c\u4eba\u795e\u54ea\u5f97\u885b\u8b77\u3002<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Eliminate Laziness<\/strong><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Actively engage in every task;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; If you avoid effort and seek comfort,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Neither humans nor gods can protect you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>11.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u5b78\u5b9a\u529b\uff0c\u76f4\u628a\u79c1\u5fc3\u76e1\u7d55\uff1b\u55ae\u55ae\u63d0\u500b\u8a71\u982d\uff0c\u81ea\u7136\u842c\u7de3\u4ff1\u606f\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Cultivate Samadhi<\/strong><br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Completely put and end to selfish desires;<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Only focusing on the Chan topic,<br>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Naturally, all distracting conditions will cease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>12.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u8fd1\u5584\u4eba\uff0c\u6b7b\u5fc3\u8e4b\u5730\u76f8\u89aa\uff1b\u5b78\u4e9b\u597d\u6a23\u5728\u809a\uff0c\u81ea\u7136\u812b\u4fd7\u96e2\u5875\u3002 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Associate with Good <\/strong><strong>spiritual friends<\/strong><br>&nbsp; Wholeheartedly connect with those who are wholesome;<br>&nbsp; Learn from their good examples,<br>&nbsp; And you will naturally detach from the mundane.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>13.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u96e2\u60e1\u53cb\uff0c\u4e00\u60e1\u822c\u822c\u51fa\u919c\uff1b<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u738b\u6cd5\u4e0d\u6015\u60e1\u4eba\uff0c\u60e1\u4eba\u62ab\u67b7\u5e36\u677b\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp; Entering the monastic life, One Must Distance from Evil Friends<\/strong><br>&nbsp; Evil friends will lead you to disgrace in every way;<br>&nbsp; The laws of the land do not fear the malicious,<br>&nbsp; Yet the malicious bear the weight of their chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>14.<\/strong><strong>\u51fa\u5bb6\u8981\u8f15\u8ca1\u7269\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ef\u5343\u65b9\u767e\u8a08\uff1b\u4e00\u53e3\u6c23\u82e5\u4e0d\u4f86\uff0c\u4e00\u6587\u62ff\u4ed6\u4e0d\u53bb\u3002<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&nbsp;&nbsp;
