During that process, I met a Buddhist teacher who guided me to observe my mind through writing journal, paying attention to my emotions and reactions to events. With that, I started to notice the movement of my heart and emotion. It felt like discovering a whole new universe. I really like that practice.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1996, I came to the Bay Area for work. I searched for a teacher who can guide me to find out what\u2019s going on in my mind. I found Rev. Heng Sure at the Gold Sage Monastery and really liked his teaching. I began attending his Sunday classes at the Gold Sage Monastery regularly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A few months later, I visited the Berkeley Buddhist Monastery for the first time. When I entered the Buddha Hall, my heart shook and tears started flowing down my face for no reason. I felt like a child who had been wandering in the world for a long time and had finally found home.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stood there, looking at the Buddha image for a few minutes, waiting my heart to calm down. Then, I suddenly remembered: Isn\u2019t the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas where my grandma was ordained as a bhik\u1e63un\u012b and had stayed for some time? At that moment I felt a circle had been completed. Somehow my family is connected to the Venerable Master Hua, and even without conscious looking for Venerable Master\u2019s teaching, I walked my steps towards him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1995\u5e74\u6211\u6bcd\u89aa\u5f80\u751f\u5f8c\uff0c\u6211\u958b\u59cb\u5c0b\u627e\u751f\u547d\u7684\u7b54\u6848\uff0c\u60f3\u77e5\u9053\u6bcd\u89aa\u53bb\u4e86\u54ea\u88e1\uff0c\u5979\u904e\u5f97\u597d\u4e0d\u597d\u3002\u5728\u9019\u500b\u904e\u7a0b\u4e2d\uff0c\u6211\u9047\u5230\u4e00\u4f4d\u4f5b\u5b78\u8001\u5e2b\uff0c\u6307\u5c0e\u6211\u900f\u904e\u5beb\u65e5\u8a18\u89c0\u5bdf\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u5fc3\uff0c\u7279\u5225\u7559\u610f\u60c5\u7dd2\u548c\u5c0d\u4e8b\u7269\u7684\u53cd\u61c9\u3002\u5c31\u9019\u6a23\uff0c\u6211\u958b\u59cb\u6ce8\u610f\u5230\u81ea\u5df1\u5167\u5fc3\u7684\u8b8a\u5316\u548c\u60c5\u7dd2\uff0c\u5f77\u5f7f\u767c\u73fe\u4e86\u4e00\u500b\u5168\u65b0\u7684\u4e16\u754c\u3002\u6211\u5f88\u559c\u6b61\u9019\u500b\u4fee\u884c\u65b9\u6cd5\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1996\u5e74\u6211\u56e0\u5de5\u4f5c\u4f86\u5230\u7063\u5340\u3002\u6211\u7e7c\u7e8c\u5c0b\u627e\u4e00\u4f4d\u80fd\u6307\u5c0e\u6211\u89c0\u5bdf\u5167\u5fc3\u7684\u8001\u5e2b\u3002\u5728\u91d1\u8056\u5bfa\uff0c\u6211\u9047\u5230\u4e86\u6052\u5be6\u6cd5\u5e2b\uff0c\u5f88\u559c\u6b61\u4ed6\u5bcc\u6709\u908f\u8f2f\u6dfa\u986f\u6613\u61c2\u53c8\u751f\u6d3b\u5316\u7684\u8b1b\u6cd5\u3002\u6211\u958b\u59cb\u56fa\u5b9a\u53c3\u52a0\u4ed6\u5728\u91d1\u8056\u5bfa\u7684\u9031\u65e5\u8ab2\u7a0b\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u4e00\u76f4\u5230\u5e7e\u500b\u6708\u5f8c\uff0c\u6211\u624d\u7b2c\u4e00\u6b21\u62dc\u8a2a\u5be6\u6cd5\u5e2b\u6240\u4e3b\u6301\u7684\u67cf\u514b\u840a\u8056\u5bfa\u3002\u7576\u6211\u9032\u5165\u4f5b\u6bbf\u6642\uff0c\u6211\u7684\u5fc3\u88e1\u9707\u52d5\uff0c\u6211\u4e0d\u7531\u81ea\u4e3b\u5730\u6d41\u4e0b\u773c\u6dda\u3002\u90a3\u4e00\u523b\uff0c\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u50cf\u662f\u4e00\u500b\u5728\u5916\u6f02\u6cca\u8a31\u4e45\u7684\u5b69\u5b50\u7d42\u65bc\u56de\u5230\u5bb6\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u6211\u7ad9\u5728\u90a3\u88e1\u671b\u8457\u4f5b\u50cf\uff0c\u7b49\u5f85\u5fc3\u60c5\u5e73\u975c\u4e0b\u4f86\u3002\u7a81\u7136\uff0c\u6211\u60f3\u8d77\uff1a\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u4e0d\u5c31\u662f\u6211\u7956\u6bcd\u5243\u5ea6\u6210\u70ba\u6bd4\u4e18\u5c3c\u4e26\u4f4f\u904e\u4e00\u6bb5\u6642\u9593\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u55ce\uff1f\u90a3\u4e00\u523b\uff0c\u6211\u611f\u89ba\u56e0\u7de3\u5713\u6eff\u5b8c\u6574\u4e86\u3002\u5373\u4f7f\u6211\u6c92\u6709\u523b\u610f\u7684\u8ffd\u6c42\uff0c\u4e0d\u77e5\u4e0d\u89ba\u4e2d\uff0c\u6211\u7684\u8173\u6b65\u8d70\u5411\u4e86\u5ba3\u5316\u4e0a\u4eba\u7684\u6559\u6cd5\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEgAOvIIrmrQ2UOVGp6lHhhovxtJwWz_Psj7CmTt9EK1BPBUdjLCt1troljkw2RHBeGfq1rFtZDSTxyRxbZYJsO5itAE5YjhzUhliSvOr-cZOdT1h_s0hCArvkzLh6uP1FZ6AdVzOHHsZGyBv19ubofirHegtp1LWcLeh1tpkySKIDO4RYbMyKkyma-HDw\/s16000\/P9080179.JPG\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now as I walk in the CTTB, I think about my grandma that this is where she lived and walked. My path crosses her path in the same space, though at different times.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was hoping to find a picture of her at CTTB but I couldn\u2019t find one in my family album. One day, during a Dharma Master Heng Syun\u2019s Zoom lecture, she shared pictures from Venerable Master Hua\u2019s Dharma tour in Taiwan in 1990s. As she shared a picture of bhiksunis surrounding the Venerable Master, I exclaimed: \u201cThat\u2019s my grandma! And that\u2019s my auntie next to her!\u201dI was overjoyed to finally have a picture of my grandma with the Venerable Master. &nbsp;(My grandma is the one on the upper right corner)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u73fe\u5728\u6bcf\u7576\u6211\u5728\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u8d70\u52d5\u6642\uff0c\u7e3d\u6703\u60f3\u5230\u9019\u88e1\u66fe\u662f\u7956\u6bcd\u751f\u6d3b\u548c\u884c\u8d70\u904e\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u3002\u6211\u5011\u7684\u8db3\u8de1\u5728\u540c\u4e00\u500b\u7a7a\u9593\u4ea4\u6703\uff0c\u53ea\u662f\u5728\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u6642\u9593\u3002\u6211\u4e00\u76f4\u5e0c\u671b\u80fd\u627e\u5230\u7956\u6bcd\u5728\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u6642\u7684\u7167\u7247\uff0c\u4f46\u5728\u5bb6\u88e1\u7684\u76f8\u7c3f\u4e2d\u90fd\u627e\u4e0d\u5230\u3002\u6709\u4e00\u5929\uff0c\u5728\u6052\u718f\u6cd5\u5e2b\u7684\u7dda\u4e0a\u8b1b\u5ea7\u4e2d\uff0c\u5979\u5206\u4eab\u4e86\u4e0a\u4eba\u4e5d\u5341\u5e74\u4ee3\u5728\u53f0\u7063\u5f18\u6cd5\u6642\u7684\u7167\u7247\u3002\u7576\u5979\u5c55\u793a\u4e00\u5f35\u6bd4\u4e18\u5c3c\u5011\u570d\u7e5e\u5728\u5ba3\u5316\u4e0a\u4eba\u8eab\u908a\u7684\u7167\u7247\u6642\uff0c\u6211\u9a5a\u547c\uff1a\u300c\u90a3\u662f\u6211\u7956\u6bcd\uff01\u65c1\u908a\u90a3\u4f4d\u662f\u6211\u59d1\u59d1\uff01\u300d\u6211\u5f88\u9ad8\u8208\u80fd\u770b\u5230\u7956\u6bcd\u548c\u4e0a\u4eba\u7684\u5408\u7167\u3002(\u6211\u7956\u6bcd\u5728\u53f3\u4e0a\u89d2)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogger.googleusercontent.com\/img\/b\/R29vZ2xl\/AVvXsEi5TWgSQaDkDQiJ8LAq49gQKmEx8qWfc6NxJ8KB2Vbc4nn3Pbvh2kI50rIBx8iwZeBV26F8k5WV74_FSJt_dvkkrz4Vw9-YE1Z9YQrhOkYVkup4bhntpKJ6gH89OL4kevePnmmJuXliQA7rYNGtiSmq_LXe3kl5t1idmhutzvKN2mjE3dxHuR448hMPjg\/s16000\/SF%201990%20TW-0906~12%20at%20Bao%20Jie%20M-011.TIF\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My grandma\u2019s dharma name is \u6046\u5b89(H\u00e9ng \u0100n)\u3002She has always been very kind to me. On one of my trips back to Taiwan, I saw my grandma in the praying room in front of the Bodhisattva, she kindly held my hand and said, \u201c\u58eb\u3a17, if you have any sorrow, you can always tell it to the Bodhisattva, she will listen to you and won\u2019t tell anyone\u201d. Her warm voice and kind words stay with me to this day. ( My grandma is the one behind Venerable Master to the right )<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u6211\u7956\u6bcd\u7684\u6cd5\u540d\u662f\u6046\u5b89\u3002\u5979\u4e00\u76f4\u5c0d\u6211\u5f88\u6148\u7965\u3002\u6709\u4e00\u6b21\u6211\u56de\u53f0\u7063\uff0c\u770b\u5230\u7956\u6bcd\u5728\u5bb6\u88e1\u7684\u4f5b\u5802\u88e1\uff0c\u5728\u83e9\u85a9\u50cf\u524d\uff0c\u5979\u6148\u7965\u5730\u63e1\u8457\u6211\u7684\u624b\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u58eb\u3a17\uff0c\u5982\u679c\u4f60\u6709\u4ec0\u9ebc\u7169\u60f1\uff0c\u90fd\u53ef\u4ee5\u544a\u8a34\u83e9\u85a9\uff0c\u5979\u90fd\u6703\u807d\uff0c\u4e5f\u4e0d\u6703\u544a\u8a34\u5225\u4eba\u3002\u300d\u5979\u6eab\u6696\u7684\u8072\u97f3\u548c\u6148\u7965\u7684\u8a71\u8a9e\u81f3\u4eca\u4ecd\u5728\u6211\u5fc3\u4e2d\u3002(\u6211\u7956\u6bcd\u662f\u5728\u4e0a\u4eba\u5f8c\u65b9\u53f3\u5074\u90a3\u4f4d)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My mother-in-law is also a devoted Buddhist and joined me to the Gold Sage&nbsp;Monastery\u2019s Sunday classes. She heard that Rev. Heng Sure often taught at the Gold Sage Monastery on Sunday mornings, then drove to CTTB in the afternoon to give a lecture in the evening, and then came back that night. That\u2019s lots of driving. She suggested, \u2018Why don\u2019t you help drive Rev. Heng Sure to CTTB?\u2019 So, I did.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u6211\u7684\u5cb3\u6bcd\u4e5f\u662f\u8654\u8aa0\u7684\u4f5b\u6559\u5f92\uff0c\u5e38\u548c\u6211\u4e00\u8d77\u53c3\u52a0\u91d1\u8056\u5bfa\u7684\u9031\u65e5\u8ab2\u7a0b\u3002\u5979\u807d\u8aaa\u6052\u5be6\u6cd5\u5e2b\u5e38\u5e38\u9031\u65e5\u65e9\u4e0a\u5728\u91d1\u8056\u5bfa\u8b1b\u8ab2\uff0c\u4e0b\u5348\u53c8\u8981\u958b\u8eca\u5230\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u665a\u4e0a\u8b1b\u8ab2\uff0c\u7136\u5f8c\u518d\u958b\u8eca\u56de\u4f86\uff0c\u9019\u6a23\u9577\u9014\u958b\u8eca\u5f88\u8f9b\u82e6\u3002\u6709\u4e00\u5929\u5979\u5efa\u8b70\u6211\uff1a\u300c\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u4e0d\u5e6b\u5fd9\u8f09\u6052\u5be6\u6cd5\u5e2b\u53bb\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u5462\uff1f\u300d\u65bc\u662f\u6211\u5c31\u958b\u59cb\u5e6b\u5fd9\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On a rainy Sunday night, Rev. Heng Sure and I came back to BBM from CTTB after the evening lecture. I parked the car in front of the BBM. Rev. Heng Sure stepped out of the car with a bag on his shoulder and walked toward the front door. I carried the other bags and stood by the car. &nbsp;Rev. Heng Sure walked slowly, looking at the ground as if he were searching for something. He stopped before the stairs and bent down to pick up something, moved it to the garden on the side. He then picked up another one and did the same. He is moving snails! &nbsp;He told me as he moved those snails: it\u2019s a rainy day, many snails come out on the walkway so you\u2019d want to walk carefully and not to step on them. After moving snails to the garden, he stood up and continued to walk towards the door. I remembered on many rainy days, when I walk at a fast pace to my car, I stepped on snails and heard the \u201ccrack\u201d sound when the snail was smashed under my foot. I would just say, \u2018Oops\u2019, and keep walking. Seeing what Rev. Heng Sure did made me realize what a cruel thing I have done. I decided to change. Since then, I walk carefully on rainy days, and have moved many snails from the walkway to the garden.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u6211\u5bb6\u9580\u524d\u4e5f\u6709\u4e00\u689d\u8d70\u9053\uff0c\u8a18\u5f97\u5f88\u591a\u4e0b\u96e8\u5929\u88e1\uff0c\u6211\u5306\u5306\u8d95\u8457\u4e0a\u73ed\uff0c\u8e29\u5230\u8778\u725b\u6642\u807d\u5230\u300c\u5580\u5693\u300d\u4e00\u8072\uff0c\u6211\u901a\u5e38\u53ea\u662f\u8aaa\u8072\u300c\u54ce\u5440\u300d\u5c31\u8d70\u4e86\u3002\u770b\u5230\u6052\u5be6\u6cd5\u5e2b\u7684\u8209\u52d5\uff0c\u8b93\u6211\u610f\u8b58\u5230\u81ea\u5df1\u505a\u4e86\u591a\u9ebc\u6b98\u5fcd\u7684\u4e8b\u3002\u5f9e\u90a3\u4ee5\u5f8c\uff0c\u6211\u6c7a\u5b9a\u6539\u8b8a\uff0c\u5728\u4e0b\u96e8\u5929\u7e3d\u662f\u5c0f\u5fc3\u8d70\u8def\uff0c\u4e5f\u6703\u628a\u8778\u725b\u5f9e\u8d70\u9053\u79fb\u5230\u82b1\u5712\u88e1\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even a simple act of bending down can speak Dharma. It wasn\u2019t until I worked closely with the B&amp;G team that I realized there \u2019s a group of people doing the hard labor to keep the City running. I had the opportunity to see them work closely. They usually work behind the scenes so most people may not know their work. I\u2019d like to take this opportunity to share a few pictures and stories of what I saw.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u76ee\u524d\u6211\u5728\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u5efa\u8a2d\u8207\u7dad\u4fee\u90e8\u9580\u5e6b\u5fd9\uff0c\u9019\u500b\u90e8\u9580\u8ca0\u8cac\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u7684\u98f2\u6c34\u3001\u6c61\u6c34\u3001\u96fb\u529b\u3001\u7db2\u8def\u7b49\u8a2d\u65bd\u3002\u76f4\u5230\u6211\u548c\u5efa\u8a2d\u7dad\u4fee\u90e8\u9580\u7684\u6210\u54e1\u4e00\u8d77\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u624d\u610f\u8b58\u5230\u6709\u4e00\u7fa4\u4eba\u5728\u9ed8\u9ed8\u4ed8\u51fa\uff0c\u7dad\u6301\u8457\u6574\u500b\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\u7684\u904b\u4f5c\u3002\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u5de5\u4f5c\u901a\u5e38\u662f\u5728\u5e55\u5f8c\u9032\u884c\uff0c\u5f88\u591a\u4eba\u53ef\u80fd\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u8f9b\u52de\u3002\u6211\u6709\u6a5f\u6703\u8fd1\u8ddd\u96e2\u770b\u5230\u4ed6\u5011\u5de5\u4f5c\u3002\u6211\u60f3\u85c9\u9019\u500b\u6a5f\u6703\u5206\u4eab\u4e00\u4e9b\u6211\u770b\u5230\u7684\u6545\u4e8b\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very often they work in places that I would hesitate to go into, such as crawling spaces. On a cool morning, I went to the guest building to check why the Internet is down, and found Bob was looking into a basement window. &nbsp;I asked, \u2018Do you know why the building lost power?\u2019 He said, yes, the crew are working in the basement to upgrade the electricity.&nbsp;&nbsp;I know the guest building basement, but I don\u2019t recall there\u2019s a basement this side. When I looked through the window,&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u4ed6\u5011\u7d93\u5e38\u9700\u8981\u5728\u6211\u5f88\u4e0d\u9858\u610f\u9032\u53bb\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u50cf\u662f\u72f9\u7a84\u9670\u6697\u7684\u7a7a\u9593\u3002\u6709\u5929\u65e9\u4e0a\uff0c\u6211\u53bb\u5ba2\u623f\u5927\u6a13\u67e5\u770b\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u7db2\u8def\u4e0d\u901a\uff0c\u6211\u770b\u5230Bob\u770b\u8457\u5730\u4e0b\u5ba4\u7684\u7a97\u6236\u3002\u6211\u554f\u4ed6\u77e5\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u505c\u96fb\u4e86\uff1f\u4ed6\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u662f\u7684\uff0c\u5de5\u4f5c\u4eba\u54e1\u6b63\u5728\u5730\u4e0b\u5ba4\u5347\u7d1a\u96fb\u8def\u3002\u300d updating the electricity circuit.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bob is there outside to watch over their safety.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u54ea\u662f\u5730\u4e0b\u5ba4\uff0c\u90a3\u662f\u5728\u6c34\u6ce5\u548c\u6ce5\u571f\u4e2d\u7684\u593e\u5c64\u3002\u6211\u770b\u5230Angel\u548cJacob\u5728\u6975\u5176\u72f9\u7a84\u7684\u7a7a\u9593\u88e1\u66f4\u65b0\u96fb\u8def\u3002\u00a0Bob\u5728\u5916\u9762\u6ce8\u610f\u4ed6\u5011\u7684\u5b89\u5168\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure On another day, residents in the Unicorn reported the Internet was down. It turns out that rats had bitten the fiber optic in the Unicorn basement.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u4ed6\u5011\u4e5f\u8981\u5728\u6709\u8001\u9f20\u51fa\u6c92\u7684\u5730\u65b9\u5de5\u4f5c\u3002\u6709\u4e00\u5929\uff0c\u7368\u89d2\u7378\u6a13\u7684\u4f4f\u6236\u5831\u544a\u7db2\u8def\u65b7\u7dda\u3002\u539f\u4f86\u662f\u8001\u9f20\u54ac\u65b7\u4e86\u5149\u7e96\u96fb\u7e9c\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fixing fiber optical cable is an extremely delicate job and needs to be done at the location. Unicorn basement is dirty and has rat droppings, not a space I\u2019d want to stay. Being born into my family led me to my grandma and my mother. Losing her led me to investigate Buddhism, and that led me to find Rev. Heng Sure.
