\u90a3\u4e00\u5929\uff0c\u5929\u6c23\u975e\u5e38\u6674\u6717\uff0c\u6211\u5373\u5c07\u96e2\u958b\u8056\u57ce\uff0c\u89c0\u97f3\u4e03\u5df2\u7d93\u7d50\u675f\u4e86\u3002\u6211\u6253\u5305\uff0c\u6e05\u6f54\u623f\u5b50\uff0c\u6700\u5f8c\u4e00\u7ad9\u5c31\u662f\u5230\u884c\u653f\u8fa6\u516c\u5ba4\uff1b\u5728\u96e2\u958b\u842c\u4f5b\u57ce\uff0c\u4e0a\u9ad8\u901f\u516c\u8def\u958b10\u500b\u5c0f\u6642\u8eca\u56de\u5bb6\u4e4b\u524d\uff0c\u6211\u5c31\u5148\u5230\u4e86\u8fa6\u516c\u5ba4\u3002\u56e0\u70ba\u6211\u662f\u7b2c\u4e00\u6b21\u53c3\u52a0\u8056\u57ce\u7684\u6cd5\u6703\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u96e2\u958b\u4e4b\u524d\u6211\u5c31\u53bb\u4e86\u884c\u653f\u8fa6\u516c\u5ba4\uff0c\u53bb\u78ba\u5b9a\u6211\u5df2\u7d93\u8fa6\u597d\u4e86\u6240\u6709\u96e2\u958b\u7684\u624b\u7e8c\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u5230\u4e86\u90a3\u88e1\u6211\u624d\u77e5\u9053\uff0c\u5176\u5be6\u4e26\u4e0d\u9700\u8981\u8fa6\u4e00\u500b\u6b63\u5f0f\u7684\u624b\u7e8c\u4f86\u96e2\u958b\uff0c\u4f60\u53ef\u4ee5\u5c31\u9019\u9ebc\u6a23\u5730\u76f4\u63a5\u96e2\u958b\u3002\u7576\u6642\u6211\u60f3\uff1a\u54e6\uff01\u5f88\u6709\u8da3\uff01\u597d\u5427\uff0c\u90a3\u5c31\u518d\u898b\u5566\uff01<\/p>\n
It was a beautiful, clear, bright day and I was on my way out.\u00a0 The Guan Yin session was over and I had packed, cleaned, and now my last stop was the A\/O before hitting the freeway for my 10-hour drive home.\u00a0 Since this was the first time I had attended a dharma session at CTTB, I stopped by A\/O before heading out to make sure that I had completed all the necessary checkout procedure before leaving.\u00a0 Come to find out, there was no formal checkout procedure.\u00a0 You just leave.\u00a0 Interesting, I thought.\u00a0 Okay then.\u00a0 Sayonara!<\/p>\n

Just then I thought of asking about future dharma sessions at CTTB.\u00a0 Mr. Chu responded in his usual cool and calm voice.\u00a0 He said that there was the Earth Store session coming up, the Amitabha session, the Chan session, and our signature the 10,000 Buddhas Jeweled Repentance.\u00a0 He told me that the 10,000 Buddha Repentance was over 3-weeks long.\u00a0 When I heard of the 10,000 Buddhas Repentance, I was ecstatic.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 I had no idea.\u00a0 Not knowing at all what the 10,000 Buddha Repentance was about.\u00a0 All I remember was: 3 weeks and 10,000 bows.<\/p>\n

Great!\u00a0 When is it and where can I sign up?\u00a0 To my disappointment, Mr. Chu told me that I had just missed it and that it won\u2019t be held again until next year.\u00a0 I was really disappointed because I have to wait a whole year in order to bow the 10,000 Buddha Repentance.\u00a0 Fine but in Arnold Schwarzenegger\u2019s infamous words, \u201cI\u2019ll be back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although, I didn\u2019t know what bowing to the 10,000 Buddha Repentance was, immediately after hearing about it my mind had already made the commitment to bow it.\u00a0 Come rain or shine, I was going to attend the 10,000 Buddha Repentance.\u00a0 There was just a slight problem.\u00a0 How was I going to get a month off from work to go bowing?\u00a0 I worked at a hospital that was open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.\u00a0 Do you think my boss will let me take a month off?<\/p>\n

We normally sign up for vacation time once a year in order of seniority based on your date of hire.\u00a0 Each person was allowed to sign up for 2 weeks initially and once everyone has had a chance to sign up for time off then we are allowed to sign up for an additional 2 weeks of leave.\u00a0 Since I was at the bottom of the totem pole, the most junior person in the group, I could only wait and hope that my fellow colleagues would not request the same time off as I was, because only 1 person was allowed to be on vacation at any given time.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, everything turned out as I had hoped.\u00a0 I was able to sign up for a month of vacation time for the 10,000 Buddha Repentance the following year.\u00a0 Well, things didn\u2019t turn out to be that easy.\u00a0 A few weeks before going to the 10,000 Buddha Repentance, my supervisor finally came to the realization that I was going to be on vacation for a whole month.\u00a0 He frankly told me, \u201cYou can\u2019t do that.\u201d\u00a0 I looked at him in amazement.\u00a0 \u201cWhat do you mean I can\u2019t do that?\u00a0 You\u2019d already approved my request.\u201d\u00a0 He told me that he didn\u2019t realize that I was taking 4 consecutive weeks off.\u00a0 Who\u2019s going to cover for you?\u00a0 Nobody can adequately cover for you for that amount of time.\u00a0 Things weren\u2019t looking good.<\/p>\n

But I was adamant about going so I had to take the issue up with the Director of my department.\u00a0 Because I had followed all the proper procedure in requesting for vacation time, the Director had no recourse but to let me take the time off as requested.\u00a0 My colleagues were all in disbelief.\u00a0 One of them said to me, \u201cI have been working here for almost 20 years and I haven\u2019t been able to take more than 2 weeks off at a time.\u00a0 How is it that you can take a whole month off?\u201d<\/p>\n

After jumping through all the hoops to get time off from work, I finally made it to my very first 10,000 Buddha Repentance in 2004.\u00a0 After a couple of years of taking off from work to attend the 10,000 Buddha Repentance, my coworkers got used to my annual routine.\u00a0 Each year when it got around to spring time, they would automatically remind me.\u00a0 Aren\u2019t you going bowing soon? It\u2019s been 8 years now.\u00a0 I\u2019m a bit amazed that I have been able to bow this repentance for 8 consecutive years.\u00a0 I feel really fortunate to have encountered all the right conditions in order for me to do the bowing year after year.<\/p>\n

I often remind myself how rare it is for me to have encountered such an opportunity.\u00a0 How many people work at a place that gives them a month of vacation time each year?\u00a0 Most of my friends working at other companies get 2 weeks off and maybe they will get 3 weeks off if they have worked for 10 years or more.\u00a0 How many employers will let their employees go on vacation for a month?\u00a0 Even though some people have enough vacation time but their boss will not let them use it.<\/p>\n

How many people are willing to use all of their vacation time to go bowing?\u00a0 Most would prefer to use their time off to go on some exotic trip, spend time with family, and so on.\u00a0 How many people are willing to let go of their social or family obligations to go bowing?\u00a0 Most people have some sort of family obligations.\u00a0 They have to care for their husband, wife, kids, parents, relatives, friends, neighbors or even their pets.\u00a0 They are unwilling or unable to put down these obligations in order to go bowing.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the financial aspect.\u00a0 How many can financially afford to do so?\u00a0 How many can physically do so?\u00a0 How many people even know of the 10,000 Buddha Repentance?<\/p>\n

To me, it\u2019s like winning the lotto.\u00a0 It\u2019s like the stars were all aligned in the perfect position, in the right place, and at the right time.\u00a0 What are the odds of that happening?\u00a0 Very, very slim.\u00a0 So every year that I was able to go bowing, I always treasured and cherished the fact that I have been blessed with such good fortunate.\u00a0 Who knows if I will have the same opportunity again the following year.<\/p>\n

What makes the 10,000 Buddha Repentance even more memorable for me is the fact that my mom would always come along with me.\u00a0 That is until I moved to CTTB.\u00a0 To me, it\u2019s exceptional rare that both my mom and I were able to go bowing together every year and plant good roots.\u00a0 Although my mom was in her late 60\u2019s or early 70\u2019s, she managed to bow every incense.\u00a0 She even went to all the morning and evening recitation.\u00a0 So, I was a bit proud of her for being so vigorous.<\/p>\n

One year, her friend came with us for the 10,000 Buddha Repentance.\u00a0 She was in her 70\u2019s but quite healthy for her age.\u00a0 I remember walking into the room one day and hearing her cheerful voice.\u00a0 Tomorrow\u2019s graduation!\u00a0 Graduation?\u00a0 What graduation?\u00a0 It turns out that tomorrow was the last day of the 10,000 Budd Repentance and she was elated by the fact that she will have completed the full session.\u00a0 She was so proud of herself and she felt like she was graduating from a rigorous training program.\u00a0 It was too bad that I didn\u2019t have a certificate to give to her for completing the 10,000 Buddha Repentance.<\/p>\n

What was my motivation for coming to the 10,000 Budd Repentance each year?\u00a0 For sure, it\u2019s not because I was force to do it.\u00a0 I\u2019m not really quite sure why though.\u00a0 Somehow upon hearing about the 10,000 Budd Repentance, I instantly made the commitment to do the bowing.\u00a0 It\u2019s a bit like I innately knew that this was what I had to do.\u00a0 In a way, it felt as though I had made this commitment a long, long time ago, in some distant past and now it\u2019s time for me to fulfill that commitment.\u00a0 The strength of that commitment was overwhelming.\u00a0 I never had even a moment\u2019s doubt, even though I had no clue of what I was doing.\u00a0 But just as sure as the fact that sun rises in the east and sets in the west, I was just as sure of the fact that I had to go bowing.<\/p>\n
\u73fe\u5728\u56de\u60f3\u8d77\u4f86\uff0c\u6211\u89ba\u5f97\u81ea\u5df1\u597d\u7b28\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u9019\u4e9b\u5e74\u4f86\u6211\u4e00\u76f4\u5728\u53c3\u52a0\u62dc\u61fa\uff0c\u4f46\u662f\u6211\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u6211\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u4f86\u62dc\u61fa\u3002\u6211\u4e5f\u4e0d\u77e5\u9053\u62dc\u61fa\u5230\u5e95\u6709\u4ec0\u9ebc\u6a23\u7684\u597d\u8655\uff0c\u5c31\u53ea\u662f\u77e5\u9053\u6211\u4e00\u5b9a\u8981\u505a\uff01\u6240\u4ee5\u6c92\u6709\u5176\u4ed6\u4efb\u4f55\u7684\u539f\u56e0\uff0c\u6211\u5c31\u4f86\u4e86\u3002<\/p>\n
Now that I think about it, I\u2019m quite dumb.\u00a0 I have committed to doing this for all these years without even knowing the reason or purpose.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even know if there were any benefits in doing this.\u00a0 I did it because I just knew that I had to do it.\u00a0\u00a0 There was no other reason.<\/p>\n

Luckily, for me, even as dumb as I am, in coming to bow the 10,000 Buddha Repentance and basking in the Dharma and this wholesome environment all these years, even I end up learning some Buddhadharma.\u00a0 I finally got to hear about the benefits of bowing to the 10,000 Buddha Repentance.\u00a0 The Venerable Master said, \u201cThe merit and virtue of this ceremony [Ten Thousand Buddhas Repentance] cannot be fully described. Some people may have been destined to live only a short time, but by bowing the Repentance before Ten Thousand Buddhas, they can prolong their life span. Some people are chronically ill. If they sincerely bow the Repentance before Ten Thousand Buddhas, their illnesses will be cured. Some people haven\u2019t enjoyed much good fortune in their lives; everything has been unlucky for them. If, however, they can sincerely bow the Repentance before Ten Thousand Buddhas, everything will become auspicious and will turn out as they wish. The merit and virtue from bowing this repentance is inconceivable. In cultivating the Way, if you constantly bow the Repentance before Ten Thousand Buddhas, you can quickly become enlightened.<\/p>\n
\u6bd4\u5982\u8aaa\uff0c\u6709\u4e00\u500b\u4e0a\u4eba\u5728\u9999\u6e2f\u8a8d\u8b58\u7684\u6cd5\u5e2b\uff0c\u672c\u4f86\u4ed6\u4e0d\u592a\u6703\u8b1b\u8a71\uff0c\u800c\u4e14\u8b58\u5b57\u4e0d\u591a\u3002\u4f46\u662f\uff0c\u7576\u4ed6\u53bb\u4e86\u52a0\u62ff\u5927\u4ee5\u5f8c\uff0c\u4ed6\u6c92\u6709\u5f88\u591a\u4e8b\u60c5\u53ef\u4ee5\u505a\uff0c\u6240\u4ee5\u5c31\u958b\u59cb\u62dc\u842c\u4f5b\u61fa\u3002\u62dc\u4e865\u5e74\u4ee5\u5f8c\uff0c\u7e3d\u5171\u62dc\u4e8626\u90e8\u7684\u842c\u4f5b\u61fa\uff0c\u73fe\u5728\u4ed6\u770b\u8d77\u4f86\u6bd4\u8f03\u8070\u660e\uff0c\u6bd4\u4ee5\u524d\u8070\u660e\u5f88\u591a\u3002<\/p>\n
For instance, “a Dharma Master I once knew in Hong Kong didn\u2019t talk very well and was not very literate. Then he went to Canada. Since he didn\u2019t have much to do, he bowed the Repentance before Ten Thousand Buddhas every day. Bowing by himself for five years, he went through the repentance twenty-six times. He now appears to be much more intelligent than before.\u201d<\/p>\n
