\u4eba\u5230\u8001\u5e74\uff0c\u4e0a\u4eba\u8981\u6c42\u8001\u5e74\u4eba\u300c\u8981\u76e1\u529b\u70ba\u5168\u4eba\u985e\u7684\u798f\u7949\u505a\u5de5\u4f5c\u3002\u300d<\/p>\n

\u8981\u559a\u8d77\u300c\u6c92\u6709\u6230\u722d\u6216\u6b98\u6bba\u7684\u4e16\u754c\u300d\uff0c\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\u958b\u793a\u8aaa\uff0c\u4f60\u5011\u9577\u58fd\u7684\u4eba\u7279\u5225\u9069\u5408\u505a\u9019\u4efd\u5de5\u4f5c\uff0c\u4f86\u8b93\u4e16\u754c\u66f4\u548c\u5e73\u3002<\/p>\n

\u4f5b\u5bb6\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u842c\u6cd5\u552f\u5fc3\u9020\u3002\u300d\u56e0\u6b64\u4eba\u5728\u4efb\u4f55\u5e74\u9f61\u90fd\u53ef\u4ee5\u5f88\u5e74\u8f15\uff0c\u7121\u8ad6\u6d3b\u5230\u591a\u8001\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u90fd\u53ef\u4ee5\u66f4\u5e74\u8f15\uff0c\u66f4\u5805\u5f37\uff0c\u66f4\u80fd\u5e6b\u52a9\u9019\u500b\u4e16\u754c\u3002<\/p>\n

\u8001\u4eba\u6bd4\u5e74\u8f15\u4eba\u61c2\u4e8b\uff0c\u4f46\u6211\u5011\u6d3b\u5728\u4e16\u4e0a\u7684\u6642\u9593\u4e0d\u904e\u4e00\u8f49\u773c\uff0c\u89ba\u5f97\u751f\u547d\u5f88\u9577\u4e0d\u904e\u662f\u5e7b\u89ba\u800c\u5df2\u3002<\/p>\n

\u5ba3\u516c\u4e0a\u4eba\u8aaa\uff1a\u300c\u4f60\u89ba\u5f97\u8001\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u4f60\u5c07\u9019\u77ed\u77ed\u7684\u6642\u9593\u7576\u4f5c\u9577\u6642\u9593\u3002\u4f60\u70ba\u4ec0\u9ebc\u89ba\u5f97\u8001\uff1f\u5c31\u56e0\u70ba\u4f60\u89ba\u5f97\u5728\u4e16\u9593\u9019\u9ebc\u9577\u7684\u6642\u9593\u4e86\u3002\u300d\u8981\u8a18\u5f97\u6211\u5011\u4eca\u5929\u5728\u5ea7\u7684\u4eba\u90fd\u975e\u5e38\u5e74\u8f15\uff0c\u4e0d\u8981\u89ba\u5f97\u81ea\u5df1\u8001\u3002\u56e0\u6b64\u300c\u8d8a\u8001\u8d8a\u5e74\u8f15\u8001\u8005\u5c11\u4e4b\u300d\u5c31\u662f\u4ed6\u7684\u6559\u8aa8\u3002<\/p>\n

\u4e0a\u4eba\u8aaa\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u5f97\u505a\u4ed6\u8981\u6c42\u6211\u5011\u505a\u7684\u4e8b\uff0c\u5225\u7121\u9078\u64c7\u3002<\/p>\n

\u6211\u5011\u5225\u7121\u9078\u64c7\u90fd\u5f97\u505a\u4ed6\u6240\u8aaa\u7684\u8981\u70ba\u4e16\u754c\u548c\u5e73\u8ca2\u737b\u529b\u91cf\u9019\u4ef6\u4e8b\u3002<\/p>\n

\u300c\u6211\u8981\u4f60\u5011\u505a\u7684\u4e8b\uff0c\u662f\u6700\u9ad8\u5c1a\u7684\u4e8b\uff0c\u662f\u8056\u8ce2\u7684\u4e8b\u3002\u7121\u8ad6\u4f60\u559c\u6b61\u4e0d\u559c\u6b61\uff0c\u958b\u4e0d\u958b\u5fc3\uff0c\u90fd\u8981\u53bb\u505a\u3002\u5e0c\u671b\u660e\u5929\u4e16\u754c\u548c\u5e73\uff0c\u6c92\u6709\u5730\u9707\uff0c\u4e0d\u6253\u98b6\u98a8\uff0c\u4e0d\u9b27\u6d2a\u6c34\uff0c\u4e5f\u6c92\u6709\u707d\u96e3\u3002\u5e0c\u671b\u5730\u6c34\u706b\u98a8\u56db\u5927\u90fd\u5e73\u5b89\u7121\u4e8b\u3002\u5982\u679c\u4f60\u5011\u5e73\u5b89\uff0c\u6211\u4e5f\u5e73\u5b89\uff0c\u6211\u5011\u5927\u5bb6\u90fd\u5e73\u5b89\u4e86\u3002\u9019\u591a\u5feb\u6a02\uff01<\/p>\n

Honoring Elders Day in\u00a0<\/strong>City of Ten Thousand Buddhas<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

November 10, 2012<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Because honoring of elders is a mainstay of Buddhist teaching, Venerable Master Hua, founder of the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas, initiated Honoring Elders Day here at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas 21 years ago.<\/p>\n

Master Hua taught that elders are the world\u2019s most honorable people but that they also bear great responsibility.<\/p>\n

He taught that people should have \u201cyouth in old age\u201d ,and as one grows older, one should also \u201cgrow younger.\u201d<\/p>\n

What did he mean by such a paradox?\u00a0 What did he mean by \u201cgrow younger as you grow older\u201d?<\/p>\n

First, Master Hua said, \u201cDon\u2019t be satisfied with growing old!\u201d\u00a0 Don\u2019t think that your work here is over just because you\u2019ve been around a long time.<\/p>\n

To the contrary, he admonished us to become stronger as we become older.<\/p>\n

How can this be?\u00a0 Surely we don\u2019t get stronger but weaker as we grow older.<\/p>\n

While we may become weaker in our limbs and backs, Master Hua taught that we become stronger in that we become more able to benefit the world.<\/p>\n

When you are an elder, \u201cDo whatever work you can for the common good of all humankind!\u201d he demanded.<\/p>\n

The Buddha reminded us that \u201cThe world is not at peace because people are too selfish, too greedy and too hostile.\u201d\u00a0 He chided that \u201c Man\u2019s spectacular stupidity has brought strife to the world!\u201d<\/p>\n

It is the duty of elders to do everything they can to diminish earthly strife.<\/p>\n

But how do we do this?<\/p>\n

First, by bringing peace to ourselves and to our families.\u00a0 Then by bringing peace to our communities, our towns and cities and counties.\u00a0 And then to our nation and finally to the whole world.<\/p>\n

It is in this way that we elders can make our great contribution to world peace.<\/p>\n

In calling for \u201ca world without murder or war\u201d, Venerable Master Hua explained that people of long life are uniquely capable of doing the work of\u00a0 bringing about a more peaceful world.<\/p>\n

It is taught in Buddhism that \u201ceverything is made from the heart alone\u201d and therefore one can have youth at any age, regardless of years.\u00a0 No matter how many years we have lived, we can become younger, stronger, and more able to help the world.<\/p>\n

As we elders know better than the young, our total years on the planet are \u201cthe blink of an eye\u201d.\u00a0 It is just another of our illusions that life is long.<\/p>\n

Venerable Master Hua said, \u201cYou feel old because you mistake this short time for a long time.\u201d\u00a0 Instead of feeling old, try to remember that all of us here today are really very young.\u00a0 So \u201cBe young in your old age!\u201d is the teaching.<\/p>\n

Master Hua said that there is no choice but to do the work he demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe work I have given you to do is the highest work, the work of sages. Whether you like it or not, you must do this work; happy or unhappy, you must do this work. I hope that tomorrow the world will be at peace and that there will be no earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, or calamities. May there be no disasters involving earth, air, water, or fire. When you are all at peace, then I will be peace\u2014together we will be at peace. What great joy!\u201d<\/p>\n
